My sister is what most people would call rich.I have to think twice about her wealth as she hasn't changed & lives fairly modestly.
We were brought up on a council estate & never had money. She has worked hard for her money.
Makes me laugh when she is moaning about the price of things & won't spend extravagantly. She does the lottery.I guess some people still have the same values they were brought up with.
Annoyingly, she wouldn't let me persuade her into buying an Audi R8 as she said there wad no room for the shopping!

Technically speaking, I am loaded. Realistically speaking I am just as skint as my brother in law who live in a 3 million quid house with a 500k mortgage and makes 200k a year. Neither of us have piles of spare cash. Neither of us are in danger of the bailiffs, but 100k cars are never an option. The only person I know who seems to have an unlimited amount of cash is my sister, who hasn't worked since Kylie was still in Neighbours, and manages to draw in a stupid amount of benefits. OK, she isn't going to buy a Lambo on benefits, but she doesn't buy her trainers from Tesco.
Anyway - given that I am technically loaded, I don't do the lottery. It isn't that I couldn't do with a few million quid, (or even an extra score). It is just that I understand that I would have a better chance and get better odds betting on Tony Blair to be the next prime minister

I play it from time to time, just out of impulse...when I feel like it.
I'm certainly not rich. I'll never be rich doing my job but I earn more than most. I've got some savings but that will go on a big house deposit at some point.
To be rich you really need to own a business or be a CEO or something, or alternatively work in banking.
Or be a Doctor...

Ask Trout?
Well I don't have a million in the bank, but the only debt we have is our mortgage. We do do the lottery a couple of lines on a Saturday and the Euromillions if the pot is over £20m
Will certainly do the £82m game next Friday
Why wouldn't rich people do the lottery? Do you think richer people are immune to the benefits of a £5m, £10m or £20m addition to their funds?

Nouveux riche might be a bit different, especially if they made money out of the recent bubble.

The richest person I know well (worth about £50 million) does the lottery, I've often found that amusing. But as somebody else said it's probably that hunger that has allowed him to go from not much to very very cash/asset rich in about 15 years.
I suppose lottery money would still change his lifestyle ie rather than the whole family flying first class they could charter a jet, or rather than a few £100k car's he could go and buy a Veyron and not feel guilty about wasting his children's inheritance.
Personally I NEVER play the lottery as I don't think a lotto win would bring my family happiness, I'm happy to work for my money

Buying a lottery ticket on a 49 million to 1 shot is not a rational thing to do. I doubt he made 50 mill by going for such stupid odds, there are far more productive things he can do to exercise his hunger/greed.

Yeah but rich people tend to know about wealth, they know it's not something that happens by pure luck, and is your only route out of a dreary hand to mouth existence and shopping at Kwik-save.
Nouveux riche might be a bit different, especially if they made money out of the recent bubble.

OMG I just thought all this money kept arriving by pure luck. I didn't realise that as I wasn't lucky enough to be born wealthy that I would only be very lucky to have a slightly less dreary hand to mouth existence.
I am glad someone as clever as you was able to elevate me out of my ignorance.
PS What's Kwik-save, none of the staff have heard of it?

I doubt it's to do with hunger. More like an amusement.

Thanks. I didn't realise you knew him as well......

OTOH rich people just probably spend 1 quid on saturday for fun. That's what I do.
Then you have 9-5 office drones on temp wages taking their 'syndicate' ultra-seriously. Sad.
