The thing is this, there is continual mentioning of chavs etc.

The truth of the matter is that cars such as E46 M3's, RS6's and some Subaru's etc are becoming more affordable, hence the chavs start to think they can buy one with the money they made last night from selling their drugs.

This is one of the reasons I sold my M3, it was getting too common, when I had mine initially there where only 2 other E46 M3's that I knew about in my area, 10 months later I knew of 8 or so.

The problem with the above is that the chavs buy these cars with their drug money, realise the running costs are far too high, especially with the M3, then they let the cars goto the dogs, hence we end up with a lot of chaved up dogged motors which give the rest of us respectful non chavy types a bad image.

Anyway, if I was worried about image I would have bought a Bentley!

Yes, Subaru's are quite popular where I live, but nobody round here has got a 2006 Litchfield Spec C! However, my electrician has a 2004 Litchfield Type 25

And for the record, I know of at least 3 RS6's in my area, one of which I had a play with in my M3, the Audi won, but its still boring!

Not yet had the pleasure of decimating an RS6 in the Spec C! Maybe you should take a trip down to Devon scooby-tc!

Have a look at the GT3 (I think). It has two variable vane turbos which, until recently were only used to give diesels that mental performance we see today. Petrol engines couldn't use them because the technology was destroyed by the higher temps of petrol, however Porsche seem to have cracked it. What we have is a turbo that spools faster and earlier than it should for it's size but still has all it's top end and the GT3 has two of them! Kind of like VANOS for turbos
Yeah- GT2 and the Turbo are BOTH Twin-Turbocharged....

Old man runs a 997TT and the spool is unreal- there is ZERO lag....

I was running in 6th in a 40 zone (roadworks) road opened up again and I put my foot down forgetting what gear I was in and in an instant I was sat at...well...I'll say the speed limit but you get the point. This variable vain thing better catch on to other cars as it is awesome.

Be very interesting to compare to a GTR but I don't know anybody who has one.... :-(

The E46 M3's do have a bit of an image problem around here (more so than the newage impreza owners) there are a lot of little @rsholes getting their hands on them now they are falling in price....I would describe them as either wanabe PIMPS or "wideboyz" ...... who see them as unbeatable and drive, partol and clog up roads with an air of arrogance I have never witnessed before.

I think mantazini edited the list before he posted (Kidding!). At the very top the list should have:

7:55.00 - 2011 Subaru Impreza STI

http://www.autospies.com/news/2011-S...d-Video-54981/

But above that would be:

7:50 --- 157.787 km/h -- BMW E46 M3 CSL, 360 PS/1421 kg (sport auto 08/03) - Doesn't change the fact that one tried to take me off the lights and failed. Teach him to try the wrong lane...

But above THAT would be

4:48 --- 2007 BMW M3 GTS

And the RS6 was 8.20.... So u need a very long straight to give a run for its money to a spec c .I like audis and beemers, but at the moment a classic does everything i need for me. It might be not faster then all big power cars, but at least it makes me smile every time i drive it. Have driven various cars from m3 , 996 turbo, sl65 (JOB), quality is outstanding .... but prefer lighweight at the moment. I like to feel the speed not to just to see it on clocks. And at the end of the day it's a weekend car....for everyday i would like to drive a mid class deasel. To tell u the trueth even a new age feels abit dull right now, less feedback, everyone to their own thought ...

PMSL are you sad lot still banging on about this

you are all so easy to get going its like shooting fish in a barrel

I was actually basing my experience on my own driving having owned both cars not by a pointless lap time list which is compiled using different drivers for all the different cars.I was also comparing a 525bhp RS6 to my 350bhp spec c with only me driving both so a real world experience.Don't take it to heart so much because i think the Audi is better than a subaru.Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, don't throw the toys out of the pram when someone doesnt share the same opinion as you

oh go on then i could do with some more laughs

If the OP is still reading this ruined thread i would post the same question on a BMW forum such as www.m3cutters.com and see what they think.Probably as biased as this forum but you will get an idea of pro's and cons

Nice selection but they all look horribly standard especially that RS6 with the awful standard suspension and standard exhausts, not even a nice colour

The question is though what does an Impreza do better than any of the above cars? in my experience NOTHING and i think that is what the OP was asking

Let me explain myself then again. 1st i put lap times for comparison not only RS6 but the m3 , m3 csl and other similar minded cars.2nd I love beemers and audis same as i love scoobs evos, hondas and skylines. Never thought that scoob is THE BEST or THE FASTEST .... I apreciate every maschine for it's own individuality. Theres always gonna be something better... faster.... And i would never i take it to heart as it's a discussion.
I believe audi is better built quality and better for YOU. For me .... i love my scoob, as mentioned it ticks the right boxes for me at the moment. Maybe the will be a day when i will go to Zie German side, but it just not now. And coming back to the topic i think we all need to try different cars, this is how u get experience what is what and choose what is the best for you.

That is your experience, mine is the opposite so we will agree to disagree. When you pay 20k plus for a car, modding is the furthest thing from ones mind as you apparently grow out of that or so I am told

However if you are going down the modded route my car destroys all the above no problem

thats why i paid less for an already sorted one but i am still trying to think of what an Impreza does better than the more prestigious cars like M3s and Audi S/RS.The only thing i can think of is the age old 'its better in the twisties' arguement

M3Cutters is an excellent resource for M3 enthusiasts, I am an active member on there and if you introduce yourself before asking too many questions then you will be made most welcome.

Wrong again, you are so much more intact with the road in a Impreza, the car feels raw, well my Spec C does anyway.

The M3 will also feel raw. Probably as raw as the Impreza with the right suspension mods.

But the Audi's as I have said a few times, are far to clinical, not raw but very well done if you where to liken with a Sirloin stake.

I recently sold my TVR T350T, now that is the most raw car I have owned to date, but unfortunately is reliability let it down so it had to go.

Well said mate.....Audi's are very synthetic cars, Subaru's are authentic and real. An Audi is not dynamic, a Subaru is. (I get my info from the hundreds of motoring journals I read). These Audi lovers need to read in depth the relentless amount of motoring journals, written by people who drive and test cars extensively, and continuously, month after month, year after year, the Audi ALWAYS comes second place to, say, a BMW 3 series for dynamics and driveability. Thats why when you get a special Audi, there is so much hoo-haa about it because as a company they are not known for producing cars with amazing, capable handling and driveability characteristics.

I think there are too many people out there who are overly concerned with whether a dashboard has soft touch plastic or not, or what the doors sound like when they close...........then buy an Audi if that's your priority. For me, I want a dynamic car with very reasonable service costs, superb, outstanding handling, dynamics and driveability, as well as grade A reliability, so it is SUBARU IMPREZA for me every time. And who says the Subaru doesn't have superb bulid quality????? Of course it does, there are so few of them produced, so build quality inevitably remains high.

Daren - My S3 would kill your lard **** barge in 'the twisties' even with knackered suspension and a miss fire......IT'S FAR TOO HEAVY!!! On the motorway, your car is superb, and it pulled away from Iain's car fairly easily but we were doing over 110mph BEFORE you put your foot down!! And it has got OVER 500bhp remember!

I've driven Simon's RS4 and yes, it was bloody quick when it was moving (a bit like my cossie was) but it was bloody awful to drive anywhere but dual carriage ways etc but nowhere near as much fun as driving my Impreza before it blew up (my fault for not changing the oil). To be perfectly fair mate, most Audi's a boring to drive and people buy them for a different reason and your trying to compare a rally car to a tourer and you just can't do that. The Impreza is about £20K cheaper than your car and designed for something completely different - going very fast from point to point 'through the twisties'.
Your Audi is designed to go VERY fast along a motorway!!!
