Hmm, this thred got me thinking about artists.

Now some know I do commission pieces for people, mainly of cars as thats what I enjoy doing. But does that mean I'm an artist or technical illustrator. If I see it I draw it, but not in any "style" or movement. I try replicate what I see on the photo or whatever I'm working from, in a lifelike form.

Anyone answer that as it's genuinely got me stuck between 2 definitions

Sorry mote, it was close to what I've seen used as a definition of art!

And now I've actually seen the famous "seeds", I am more than happy to say it is art.

Thank you for making it unnecessary to say it. Why do you infer that there is no necessity for any kind of skill in art now. Is it all part of the great PC belief that it is unfair for someone to be more skilful than another person and therefore the sort of picture you describe which could be produced by anyone with a pot of paint and a canvas in a couple of minutes must be held up as a brilliant example of art and everyone must immediately worship the "artist's ability?

Tracy Emin did alright didn't she, only had to get out of bed and there it was, in all its disgusting glory!

You lot are being sent up something wicked!

Nothing wrong with my logic I can assure you. Anyway, you should make the most of the bubble before it bursts!

I did, and back up what I said.

If you really meant something different you should explain.

He has an art degree though, so no perceived salary ceiling!

This is what degrees get us, rooms full of hand painted beans!

I never said skill was unnecessary or any 'rubbish' paint on canvas should be held up as high art.

The point is that the 'value' of art in NOT simply in the object, modern art proved this, before that is was thought art had to beautiful....to have some impressive aesthetic quality. Art needs an intellectual component.

What else can one think when you criticise my wife's work when you have not even seen it and start belittling her painting by saying she might as well take a photo.

Particularly unpleasant and unnecessary comment.

Why not take a photo?

It's not a belittlement just a question.
