Oh look ... http://www.dailytech.com/Apple+Intro...ticle19912.htm
"... Finally, Steve Jobs announced the new MacBook Air, which is supposed to combine the best of the MacBook and the iPad. The MacBook is 0.68 thin at its thickest point, it tapers down to just 0.11 inches at its thinnest point, and it weighs just 2.9 pounds. It features complete unibody construction, a 13.3” LED-backlit display (1440x900), Core 2 Duo processor, NVIDIA GeForce 320m graphics, 802.11n wireless, two USB ports, full-size keyboard, multi-touch trackpad, and FaceTime. The new MacBook Air forgoes optical and hard drives, and will rely solely on flash for storage. The battery is rated at 7 hours using standard wireless web tests (the previous MacBook Air got 5 hours), and it can run on standby for up to 30 days. ..."

They are doing well to get the battery life they do with core2duo, my Dell is core2duo and with a 9 cell battery only manages 3-4 hours at very best although is 17" screen.

Macbook Pro i7 claimed battery life 10 hours, user lets say 7 hours. Not bad. But I agree Apple would have gotten the power/performance right, and who really needs that much speed? I have a 2006 Core Two non duo iMac that's still going great guns, definitely works faster than I do.

I would hazard a guess that not using the latest i5/i7 cpus is to do with heat/power consumption as one thing MBA's like to pride themselves on is battery life. I think there are very few i7 laptops about in comparison to other cpu based models and the ones that do exist have pitiful battery life. ...

I think they are (if haven't already) changing that across the board with any of their cpu's. I've just bought a Compaq mini with Ion gpu, none of the new Compaq mini range have the ion any more and are all replaced with the integrated intel cr4p. If intel want to go down that road they better start producing better integrated gpu's.
