The problem with this car is as has been stated, the mileage. Not many people would invest £10k into a car that has done that kind of mileage as on average a car should be 6-7 years old by the time it has covered that kind of distance. People associate age with mileage.

There an old selling trick that buyers fall for, that being - expensive = good.
The opposite is also true - cheap = poor quality.
You should up the asking price, you got nothing to lose as nobodys interested at the moment. No offence.
A psychologist called Robert Cialdini has spent his carreer looking at how to influence people. The expensive = good trap has been used for decades.

I can see where you are coming from but surely they will compare mine to others on the market and think 'Why should I pay more for one with higher mileage privately when I can get a lower mileage one from a dealer for less?' That is why I have priced it at the price it is at. It compares favourably with those of a similar plate/mileage.

Dealers, independents ? sharks more like.
Well cared for cars from private sales have their own appeal. Buyers, whilst they want a bargain, also want to see what you value the car at ! Knocking someone down from 5 figures to 4 figures feels good all day long !

FWIW not every buyer trawls sales sites making model comparisons, and if they do it's quite possible their search criteria is list cars 10k+
IMHO £9995 makes your car look unwanted.

It's all water off a ducks back to me, personaly I'm not in a massive rush to sell, but when the right buyer comes along & sees the condition of my car they will buy it. The Market is slow at the minute, that's all.

When I sold my Focus ST and WRX Wagon I used Autotrader, Both took about 6 weeks maybe more to sell. The 1st person to see each bought it. I used the online only package as it seemed a reasonable price. I didn't want to give either car away but on the other hand you have to be selling at the right price. I looked at it from the buyers point of view. If the car was massively under priced for the year then people think whats wrong, has it been stolen recovered? damaged/repaired etc? I searched autotrader nationally for the same year/spec and priced mine at the lower end. What car and other sites do price guides so you know where to aim. I got a trade in price from dealers and worked on the principal anything better than that was a bonus. If you were buying a car you would check first to see how much it was worth, selling is the reverse. Look at other peoples adverts and copy the format which you think is best listing all the accessories and spec of the vehicle. You might know your car has electric windows and central locking for example but a buyer might not. You have to tell them.

Dj-Jon, i've never been in a Spec D but the pictures i've seen on various adverts always look like the base of the seats are quickly aged and look heavily creased. I've never seen a second hand leather interior that still looked like new (no need to post pictures of yours, i'm just reporting back on what i've seen for sale), so i'd say the seats at least appear better wearing in the standard STI.
Mileage shows use and people assume that these cars are driven hard which would lead you to expect quite a few parts would need replacing soon. Same if it has many owners, you could assume it had either lots of problems or they just wragged it and passed it on, neither make it look desireable.
One last point, has anyone actually noticed the difference in value between car valuation sites? Mine changed by nearly £2k!

I personally wouldn't buy a 4 year old car with 65k, I suppose if there is no interest the OP is going to have to think about dropping the price/part exing.

The WRX spoiler is a bit naff, but I prefer it for rear visibility. The seats in mine have worn very little. I agree that leather requires more attention than cloth though.

If high mileage is a killer on used prices, what about a rebuild of engine and suspension from a reputable builder ?
Would a new block and struts be better or worse than a 40k miles car with the original kit ?

A true story is of a guy who went to buy an engagement ring for his girlfriend. When he saw the ring he wnated to buy her which happened to be over a thoasand quid the store offered him a reduction which he declined because if his girlfriend was to find out that he paid less than he needed to she was think it crap quality and not appreciate it.
The same goes for those off the upper classes who like to brag about how much particular items cost them, under the false impression that paying a high price buys you a quality item.
How many of you out there when browsing shop windows lookng at. ... let say watches..... think to yourself that a fifty quid watch is some how of lesser quality than a 400 quid watch?
Robert cialdini the psychologist I mentioned earlier has demonstrated through numerous studies how poeople, logic, rationale and powers of reason can be thrown straight out the window, makin them easy targets for someone after some cash.

When I decided I wanted a classic I knew I was going to have a problem with mileage! I was lucky enough to find one with 87k and 14 years old, FSSH (and keep all my receipts anyway) and in lovely nick. Only done 90k now.

When I was a salesman at a Subaru stealer, the 'D' in spec D was known as Death as no one would touch one as they were so hard to sell. I think there was one dealer in the midlands area who was the only person in the country who could shift the bloody things.
We used to be able to pick them up for £3-4 k less than standard ones as a result, but never took the gamble. A fair few of them ended up being International Motors company cars and they were often found on Subaru Direct.
