as a trader who accepts card payments over the phone iv had the same thing happen,
and its usualy the legal owner of the card who has realised he can get away with this
bvuy something online then deny it the delivery guy will ask for a signature at the door but he dont care what that signature is it dosnt have to be the same as the recipient name just whoever answers the door, next time you have to sign for something try m mouse and see how many times its not questioned, theiving scum now we deliver ourselves and ask for a signature on the card recipt befour we part with the goods,
onthe other hand i very recently was a victim of a card fraud someone had used my card online to but £5000 worth of credit in two seperate transactions on the same day with an online poker site,
my card never left my wallet which never left my side, barclays said its spyware that can count keystrokes and know what your typing then once they have the security code expiry date and 16 didgit no they can spend your money,
barclays got my money back within two weeks I was happy with that service,
now if i was a gambler i could have spunked that money and got it back prety easily
good luck Alan

just a thought but, by any chance was it a flat? a typical scam is they just change the door no.s on the bells so on delivery for eg they ring flat 1s bell but in fact flat 3 is the one that is alerted. then its just a case of signing any old name and the delivery driver is on his way. if that is the case then it is likely they are in the same building. Alternatively it could be an old property with the card still registered at this address, i had this problem with an old Barclaycard where i cut up the credit card and moved house as i only had it for a back up on a holiday, barclaycard then wrote to ME at my old address asking wether i required a new card, one was sent, used, and consequently they phoned me on my mobile 6 months later asking why i was not "paying off" my debt. either way the likelihood is they will be "in or around" the address. i know what i would do, hope this helps.

Going by the items bought a specialist will have to be used at some point because they are too valuable for a back alley garage to fit without a huge risk a the build going wrong

Agree with L.J.F, There either going to sell the stuff on, or hopefully there not cleaver enough to fit the parts to ther own car(if they own a subaru) and need a specialist garage to fit it. Id get in touch with any subaru specialist in a 20mile radius of erdington and let them know!!!!
Im not to far from Erdington so ill keep my eye out for any cosworth parts that come up for sale!!!!

That's been our view, considering hardly any others have been sold this year.
Besides, people blab about goodies on their car, so either they'll give the game away, or have to say nothing in case someone decides to shop them for the £500!
I'll pay it if we can identify who did it, well worth it for me, if I get the stuff back or not. I know plenty who are careless enough to go around causing unfortunate accidents for a damn sight less compensation than that.

Sorry to hear it Alan, will keep an eye out. PM over the addy so that we can put it on our watchlist.
If the owner of the card at that address owns a Subaru, it will be fairly conclusive anyhow?
I would consider civil action if you have a signature for the item, get a statement from the delivery driver etc.
Is fairly unavoidable, as it sounds like you covered all the normal checks.
