Correct, very simple once you have done it the first time

my point is, I get told Apple is so easy -- and you assert they love their customers

but they have made creating an Apple ID (without using a CC) quite difficult -- and i am sure it is a calculated decision

which seems to go against the two "easy and love" arguments

yeah and I tell the wife it's much easier after the first time too

I am not stupid, I realise exactly what they are doing, but for me the Apple image does not reflect my reality

all I wanted to do was set up the Itouch i bought my 11yr old son

You asked a question, eventually you got the correct answer, this involved 6 steps, including downloading a free app, which is probably why you wanted an account set up in the first place, otherwise why bother trying without a credit card. And yet somehow it's still not right, love for customers only goes so far you know.

you really don't get it

Do you really think that the way Apple set up the Apple ID registration is intuitive – for someone who does not want to give their credit card details

please tell me you don't have anything to do with web application design

I found that link by typing "apple id no credit card" into google, it was the top hit. I do the same whenever I can't find what I want online. Intuative or not it would have saved you a lot of typing.
