Just park further away & walk if you're worried abour car dings IMHO it's not right to park in a disabled bay if you don't need to even if a family member has the badge re entitlement.

I remember one time though when I was waiting near a disabled bay for the wife to return from shopping, engine on etc. Car crawls up behind me & proceeds to park inches from my bumper. 2 people get out & proceed to start writing on a pad of paper whilst looking at my car. I get out to "have a word" ... turns out they think I'm "parked" in the bay so without even asking me to move over decided to block me in & report me awesome stuff

Yes all understood, what a strange way for them to act. Perhaps the driver was frightened of getting a rude reply if he asked you to move. Previous bad experience perhaps.
