Impreza Vs Evo?

Depends what you want.

You can buy the same year Impreza with more power than a standard Evo 6 for 3k.

Mica red 2000 classic with 8 pots, VF35, whiteline, etc on Pistonhead for 4k. I know for a fact he'll take 3k. I have the email to prove.

I had a 320bhp classic then an Evo 6. Stunning to look at, nightmare to run.
Classic was miles quicker so I bought a Mines ECU and turned the boost up on the Evo to 350bhp. Clutch started slipping instantly. Followed abruptly with the bottom end going and spinning a shell.

MPG is shocking too. If I saw 200 miles to a full tank I was doing well.

Saying that, I always wanted to get another Evo 6 ........just to see if it could redeem itself.

By all means get one. Subarus are common in comparison but there are reasons for that.
But the Evo is definately not an every day car.

For 8k, you could have an 03 Blobeye STi runing 400bhp. Or a standard 1999 280bhp Evo6?

Would prefer the Spec D as mentioned. Prefer Hawks and it would be more suitable for the family. As they are now £10,000 they are already in budget so most probably be even better in 10 months time when I turn 30.

Servicing isnt that expensive to be honest, just the cost of oils (Assuming you do it yourself as it is easy)

However:

Service every 4.5k/6 months. They'll cost you £130-£250, depending on the service (although it's more for a cambelt), and where you take it.

Fuel consumption: Mine's pretty standard engine wise, and I get about 190 miles to £50. That seems to be the same no matter how I drive, but then I've always been heavy on fuel with my cars.

Reliability wise: I don't want to jinx things, as I'm off to the 'Ring tomorrow, but touch wood I've not spent a penny on it (excluding servicing, and a set of tyres) in 14 months/11k miles, apart from the lower ball joints, which were shot when I got it. And for what it's worth, the car's done 71k miles.

They can be money pits though, but I guess the same can be said for any car. Get a bad one, and you could be forever chucking money at it. When they go wrong, they can cost a lot to put right!
