We have a soakaway in the Farmer's field opposite so we don't pay sewerage charges either. It takes care of itself so does not need to be pumped out.

Some do but if no air can get in the bacteria sorts it all out and only clean water comes out the other end into the land. No pumping out necessary for many years.

So roughly about 114 cubic metres every 6 months.

How the hell do some of you lot use so little water, do you never wash or shower? as i dont think i waste very much but just me and girlf get thro that much
Think I'm getting ripped off royal - just got my latest statement, my direct debit has gone from £35 per month (which I thought was expensive anyway) to £45. Just me and the bird in a 2 bed apartment. We are on a meter, and they say we've used 60 cubic meters in 6 months??

£778 a year

Currently paying nearly double that as Yorkshire Water didn't send a bill through at all last year, then realised their mistake so back-dated it, so it's just shy of £1600 this year.

For 22 days here in Pattaya I have just paid 150 bht for 6 M3 .
So for a year that will be 2490 bt say 52 quid - Sounds quite cheap I think
Can't drink the water here though - only for shower and WC .

I daren't look at our water bill. We're on a meter and I'm pretty good at saving water (don't have tap running when brushing my teeth for instance) and then OH undoes all my hard work by having a gigantic marine fish tank , something like for every five parts of water he uses four get thrown away.

Eventually (decades), but it depends on how good the porous surround was constructed plus the amount of silt and other rubbish that works its way into a soakaway and clogs its ability to let the water soak into the ground.

What I don't agree with is the other bill you get which deals with the water leaving your property and having a section for 'run off'. Why the hell should I be paying for if it rains
We pay for water on the basis of the size of our house. Same for sewage and grey water ( waste water with no **** in it.) They are currently robbing me for 300 quid a month, but we have water butts for rainwater, a septic tank for sewage and we use bugger all fresh water, as we can't afford to run the washing machine by the time we pay for our **** to be processed under our own garden using the tanks we paid for. Don't ask too many question, as you might end up with a **** system like ours......(To be fair, the 300 p/m includes getting our bin emptied twice a month) Just to clarify - couple living in a small terrace with three kids, Granny and Granda and a lodger, all using mains water and mains sewage - maybe 40 quid a month. (8 people using both services)Couple living in a large house, two kids, using mains water, but looking after their own sewage.... (half as many people using half as many services.... ) that has to be a tenner a month if you apply any sort of logic or fairness.... How come I have to pay 300 :sob: :sob:

If you were metered and have 8 people in the house then water & sewerage charges should be IRO £1200 per year.
Do you own the house? Who is robbing you of £300 per month? Management Agency?

Northern Ireland - We pay 'rates' instead of council tax. We don't have an option for metered water over here, so you pay a set rate depending on the size of your house. Rates are supposed to cover bins (waste, recycle and compost,) water, sewage and street lighting. We live at least a mile from the nearest street light, sewage goes into a tank, compost goes on the compost heap, everything that can burn goes in the stove, so we get one bin full of plastic and one full of landfill emptied once a month and we get water. As above, we only use mains water for washing and cooking (OK - we do actually use the washing machine....) The people robbing me are called Rates Collection Agency - They are sort of like the Mafia wing of the Inland Revenue
