Man use API! They have such a good reputation.
For all you know you could pick up a engine out another car and then it will fail or have some problems.
If i was you and my bottom end went personally i would get the complete engine rebuilt, then you have a practically brand new engine, but if it was me it happened to i would get a closed deck with a lot of BHP haha.

Thanks
Sam

Option 1, best adivce, go out and buy a piggy bank and a car cover, put car cover on car, put money for next few months in piggy back.

Once piggy bank full, call AA, 'cars bust need recovering' (either Scoobyclinic or API are my choice) and get it rebuilt. maybe even save enough for a bit some forged goodies.

Drive away happy with an engine that will last.

option 2

buy cheap engine, fit cheap engine, start car, rattle rattle rattel, call seller back, 'enginegs bust mate, can i have a refund please' 'sold as seen mate'

go back to option selection with £1000 less money to spend.

me thinks simple choice

I can see this guy coming back on in a month saying my new engines knackered again and seller wont refund me. Dont take the chance get api, enginetuner, or any reputable builder on here, but ffs stay away from second hand engines, for a start you dont know the history of the eng. your asking to do the job twice if you dont use a specialist. But only you will make the decision..

Hello, i like the reply tidgy, id go for option 1.

I'll tell you all a little story....once upon a time in a land far far away there was a little man named muzzy and his scooby wagon broke down...he was very upset as his big ends went and didnt know what to do...so he contacted the big giant who sold him an engine...it looked like gold and very shiny...went he fitted it back in and started it, there was a big puff of smoke like there was a dragon and rattle rattle rattle.....he was in a very upset and angry mood, but then appeared merlin from API and low and behold a wave of there wond and a few grands later he has a roaring monster. He lived happily ever after by the way.....

Moral of the story.....go to API or a reputable company, dont take shortcuts.

Lol , Look guys .

I can see what you are telling me ( Even if it is in fairytales) but i think theres some confusion as to were i would be getting the engine from , Its not from ebay its from an engine breakers that sell all kinds of engines with 12 month warrenty ( Will pick car up and repair should anything go wrong ).

Look at it from my point of view. Im about to sell the best car iv had due to running costs and insurance going up to an unaffordable level when this happens. I have two offers on the table that stick out . On one hand i can have a near complete engine supplied then fitted by a trusted local with my uprated parts from current engine for £1200. On the other hand i can try and get my engine sent down to API and repaired so long as its only big end damage for £1,175 plus cost of courier + engine removal and refitting ( by local guy around £150 ) so would be looking at around £1425 . I appreciate these guys have a lot of good rep but id be worried that as soon as they got stripping it there could be other things wrong and the cost would soon mount up. Im still undecided and have now had an offer on here of £900 plus post for a bottom end....but his would have no warrenty ect

The questions you have to ask is, How much do you know about the engine? what history is with the engine, is thee anyway to confirm it? how has it been treated in life? etc etc

second hand engines just arn;t worth the risk, as said needs be sve up and get it done when you can afford it.

They must be in la-la land.
£500-£600 is the norm for an EJ205 used block.

Sorry to hear about the failure its the worst thing ever. There are loads of reputable builders on here API being one of them. I would stay well away from any cheap rebuilds as it will only put a bigger dent in your pocket. Do it properly & do it right.

Ask yourself this, why can they repair your engine for £2000 all in without inspecting? Either they are optimistic, or they will use cheap parts. What is the main issue about using API?

Potential cost if there is something else wrong and getting engine down there

i meant they will replace engine for £2000 with a rebuilt one that they say is like new. Iv looked at the bad reviews for engine world but i dont understand if they were so bad why would you get a 12 month warrenty.

Have you spoken to API about an inspection fee? I still think even if you pay them to do the work and something else is wrong then that cost will be much less than taking a risk on the cheaper engine. Why not find out how much David would charge if he started stripping it, found another problem then stopped.

Another thing is if you're selling up after fixing, which I think you indicated you might, then if you can live with a cheap reconditioned engine on your conscience then that's an option.
