best mapping place?

SimTek and sell the Blitz boost controller as simtek has very good boost control, or keep it if you like it and budget allows.
ESL have been developing a board for the v3/4 and when I spoke to Andy there this week that were mapping the demo car on one but still not sure of release date.

Can some1 please breakdown the whole mapping thing for me please, as on all the other cars ive had I get it RR'd the remapped and RR'd again? lol
I keep hearing/reading about ecutek licsense, simtek this and 3 port boost solenoid that! lol
Ive got a 2001 bugeye wrx, pretty much standard apart from a LMA DV, now I know i should get it done after putting a new filter and exhaust, so im not ready to get it done just yet, but I wanted to know what to expect.
cheers lee

generic maps are a big no no on a subaru as every engine is different.
Best thing to do is discuss with a mapper or several what you want and ask what will happen and get them to explain the best options to suit your car and your budget.
In simple terms taking your car as the example - 2001 bugeye wrx.
If you are intending changing the filter - panel filter works well on that car, and decat or sportscat exhaust and then get it mapped. A 3port boost solenoid shouldn't be necessary but can speed up the boost control and response etc.. and as they are inexpensive worth considering. The fuel pump is capable at the power level of the standard turbo (around 280bhp) but a replacement like the walbro 255 pump is cheap and easy to fit and then you know all should be well fuel delivery wise for the remap.
There are two main choices in the way it is mapped - on the road, or on the rolling road, personnally I prefer the combination of the two but do both road and roller mapping.
The standard ecu can be mapped via ecutek software or open source software downloaded from the net. All the long term established and professional mappers use ecutek whcih does require a licence fee whcih goes to ecutek for on going development and support - the ecutek / open source is another argument / discussion.
The standard ecu is mapped by reflashing the eeprom.. so a base map will be loaded and a number of checks carried out (will vary from mapper to mapper) and then the map altered and reloaded until the required outcome is achieved (safe power and torque, improved throttle response, improved mpg).
After market ecus like Simtek, Syvecs etc are live mappable so the map is updated live without stopping and reloading the map to the eeprom.. there are further options available such as multiple maps, antilag and launch control.

Cheers jolly green monster, yeah i think ur right with the generic map thing, thats quite alot to take in, but i suppose it all just boils down to throwing money at an expert like you! lol where abouts are you pal? like I say I need to sort out and exhaust and filter 1st hopefully next pay day, then a remap after that, can you put anti lag on the standard ecu?
cheers again lee
