Advertising got insane after a while, every other page was a showing a neon glowing bass tube.
Most car followers have unique web sites where more meaning full information and instance sharing can be found..
When I had RS Turbos I would pray there would be one featured in max power to find out something new that could be done.
205 Dimma on the first edition blew my mind. I can see why it took off so well and snow balled.

I haven't read a Max Power in years. Stopped buying most car mags as they were all full of the same crap cars with 1.2 engines and big bodykits. Used to make me laugh when I'd see a copy of "FastCar" with a Corsa on the front. I have a subscription to D-Sport now from the states. Works out alot cheaper than mags over here and they have some really nice high powered cars in. Plus you get to see something new almost every issue instead of the same old mods to the same cars in mags over here. They only have one model per mag and the shoot is very tastefully done. Seem to get a free DVD almost every copy as well.

I used to read it years ago when I first got into cars and modifying, I later moved on to Fast Ford and Performance Ford, then when I got the scooby I moved onto Japanese Performance, I picked up a copy in a garage waiting room recently and it seemed to have gone down hill a lot

It has four doors and is fairly quick and nippy, but maybe a bit cramped for 4 burly blokes, the loot, and automatic weapons.
I think an M5 may be better assuming it's not raining.

A lot of interesting comments here. For those who commented that the cars we feature are all just 'big body kitted lexus lights cheque book style' cars, can I ask when you last picked up a copy?
While some of the cars we feature do have body kits, we've long since moved on from the stereotype that everyone associates with us.
As an example, the cars in our last issue (Japanese special):
RWD converted Hawkeye (previously a bug) drift Impreza
Our own built FWD drift Yaris. Yes, it drifts - build thread
Smoothed euro focus
Tuned RX7
Track inspired EK3
An interview with Chris Forsberg
Mugen built NSX RR
M Speed R34 GTR
In the current issue:
Home built Evo VIII
J Racings insane Honda Fit
Clean 1.8T Bora
Show winning VW beetle
500 BHP Hyundai Genesis
We have to appeal to a wide audience, and try to cater to everyone, so feature cars from all walks of life - unlike some of the more specialist magazines mentioned in this thread.

On topic, cars like this are why people obviously have a stereotype of Max Power...

This is a drift:
This is a drift.
Hell, even this is a drift.
What you've got there is an abomination. I'm not even sure what it is, but it's NOT drifting.
*vectors in the entire driftworks forum for their amusement*

It's only recently made it to the point where it can be taken on track, and yes, there is still work to be done - however, it was going sideways, and all those involved in the project are confident it will do a lot better with more tweeks.
This FWD drift concept has been undertaken in Japan with good results, and when Sumo Power offered to work with us on the project we thought it would be worth trying something different.

Sorry, but deep down you know it's the truth *shrugs*

So no one should ever try anything different?
Have a google for FWD drifting, and while new to the UK, it's not that uncommon. Some big names were a part of this project - Sumo Power, HKS, Fensport, TRD and Maxxis amongst others. If it were such a stupid idea - or abomination as you put it - would they really have been involved?
You may not like it, but we've had a great deal of very positive feedback for this project from those who have seen it.

I didnt mind it but hated,
Scrubbers off Babestation type channels with their manky fake **** out
comments like,
"Its the f*cking nuts"
"I hit a cat and killed it ha ha ha"
It just ended up as the lowest common denominator, if I buy a car mag I want my kids to be able to read it.

Not in the least, however, doing something different whilst retaining your credibility is the key. Sadly, this seems to be where you have lost your way. There are plenty of ways to go drifting and be "different", I'm no stranger to it myself, this is me in 2006, in the process of acquiring my eurodrift licence.
If you wanted it to be different, how about a 1JZ in one of these?
Don't mug me off, they were doing it for publicity, all they were interested in were getting their companies namechecked in the mag. It's a basic advertising principle, mention a name enough times and it'll stick in peoples heads. I'm willing to bet you demanded all the work be done for free as usual.... or do I owe you an apology
Well far be it for me to be surprised that a brightly coloured small engined hatch receives positive feedback from a readership of a mag which has a heavy bias towards featuring the same, but I'm willing to bet if I link this thread to driftworks, the reaction would be less than favourable.
Bottom line is, what you were doing is what you always do, a veiled marketing ploy. Your readership thinks drifting is "cool" but can only afford small engined FWD hatches. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to realise what happened the day everyone walked into the think tank after their cafe' latte enema, do you? Just a pity no-one saw what remained of your credibility gurgling down the plughole.
Now the mag is folding. Are you really so stubborn that you wont admit that this abortion of an idea was not even a little responsible? Please bare in mind that anyone who ACTUALLY DRIFTS would think the idea of sliding a 1 litre FWD hatch about the place is laughable?
