Ive just been reading this, and im still amazed that standard internals can run such power.... So what is the consensus of a newage ecu (MY02) in terms of a reliable map - Is 450bhp with the right supporting mods and setup deemed as doable? I can see Simon's point regarding the 'live' mapping rather the 'stop starting', but in terms of running around 450 on a budget, the ECU is more than capable is it whilst being "Safe"?
My Plans so far:
UK Spec 2002 STI
GT30
76mm Samco inlet
3" Decat
Sard FPR
255 Walbro
Standard TMIC (Fmic later this year, so at present will struggle past 400?!?!)
Standard Headers (again changing later this year)
Standard 550cc (tempting on 750cc deatschwerks)
Thoughts ?

but how easy is it to do simon? surely its a lot easier at this point to go aftermarket management where the ecu works with you..? or i could be all wrong and it's just people dont try to push standard ecu far enough to see what its capable off..

yes well after market would be a good move but say 1.65bar rather than 1.5bar is a considerable power increase on a T or similar turbo.
After market management will still be restricted by the map sensor limit which can be changed for a 3bar map sensor for example but all that can be accessed on the oe ecu too but really when getting to mid to late 400s after market opens up the options further but to run 1.65bar rather than 1.5bar is v nice, especially if the owner cant afford or want to afford after market ecu.

Well if Simon can get mine to withstand 2+ bar from my AET GT3076 hybrid etc...
The MAF is going to run out of capacity soon ?
LoL
dunx
P.S. Really meant to ask Simon to run the deltadash for an estimated BHP value last time he helped me out (Again !)... DOH !

Sort of lost in this thread. Ive just built a Jdm Sti running sc46 and other mods. With a syvec ecu. It got mapped to 465 bhp. It was in the car no less than 2 weeks before a con rod decided to break free through the block. If people are running over this how are they lasting. The engine was blown at brands on a track day. It wasn't buzzed either. Got another Jdm block coming fri. So what should I be running it at for it not to go pop.

I'll be heading for 450 this year, with the intenton of having funds available for a rebuild at the end of the year when I push for 500 if it ends up spitting the dummy out, well a rod anyway!
The way I see it - if you can get a comfortable 450 with reliable parts and a good map, then to push the car further ie 500 shouldnt be too difficult, and if it does end in tears, then a further 3k should get you a 2.1 and you hopefully should already have the right supporting mods

Yes three years ago she gave some poor leakage test figures.
But no oil used and the only symptom has been relatively poor spool...
With the two add-on turbos anyway.
She's not knocking or rattling but has a minor cam cover leak to stop the underside rusting...
I reckoned it's down to a couple/few crispy fried exhaust valves but we will find out next month when it comes out and then off to visit EngineTuner.
dunx
P.S. If it had let go I'd just source a CDB after seeing it take 650 bhp in Arf's car...

How long is the car likely to be off road? I guess you wont be entering the Grudgements / SSO in the first quarter this year?

Whats age Dunx!!.... Jesus christ you'll be train spotting next!!!
My Budget is fooked now anyway, I was trying to do this a cheaply as possible to see if it possible to get a circ 400bhp car by chucking as little money as possible at it with scope for further power in the future with bought mods in mind.
My Spec has changed a little lol
UK Spec 2002 STI
GT30
76mm Samco inlet
3" Decat
Sard FPR
255 Walbro
Hayward and Scott Headers (recently sourced)
Standard TMIC (Fmic later this year, so at present will struggle past 400?!?!)
Standard 550cc (staying with these for the time being)
Rob
PS - Need to start thinking about how I'm going to get the car to handle and stop now
Coilovers bought - fitting/setup next week
H Brace - fitting next week
