>>No chance! You need a Geodesy or Origin-i GPS based device to detect the SPECS and other such cameras.
I thought nothing worked with SPECS yet or any digital equipment?
Do these systems rely on updates etc from a database to pinpoint them

I also heard another rumour which may or may not be true.....
You get caught speeding by a camera and get a fine through the post for say, £40.
You send a cheque back to pay for the fine but send too much, e.g. a cheque for £45 pounds. The police force are not allowed to overcharge you so when they have cashed your cheque they have to send a cheque for £5 back to you. Until you cash this cheque the penalty is still pending therefore if you never cash the cheque, the points aren't added to your licence
If this goes on long enough you get away with it.
Probably a load of bullsh*t but has anyone tried it/heard of something similar?
Jamie

I was shocked to see these cameras on 5th gear as i thought they were illegal to take a photo from the front without your permission (some rights thing)cos they tried it a couple of years ago and found they couldnt do it because of this and the fact that bikers dont have number plates on the front so they can get away with it.

If it looks like this:

Then it's a Specs camera, they are "number plate readers" and are 'passive', they take your average between 2 cameras and calaculate distance against elapsed time.
The new laws state that speed cameras need to be painted bright yellow, the Nott's ones have been painted already but as you can see from this picture, the frontal area of the camera is only a matter of an inch or so wide at best.
That is NOT enought to allow you to spot them or catch your eye as that inch of yellow is approx 30feet in the air.![Embarrassment](images/smilies/redface.gif)
