I hope no one else was hurt in the accident.
A lot of very nice,good people I know have been taken much too early.

A damn good thing from the sounds of things as if he was a real pikey then mixing them up with the police could have been a whole new world of grief and commosion at least the correct person is in the box now , Could have been a very different situation !!

It doesn't need to be your dad who reports him to the police just because he fell out with the garage. It's not the garage threatening you with violence and its you that's being threatened.
Report him to the police then go about your life as normal. Dont avoid the pub as the place is full of witnesses and may even have cctv.
Every time he threatens you clock who is there in the pub at the time, go and report this new threat and give the police the witness list you have.
If the police can not put a stop to it take out an injunction against him. Ask that he can not come within 500 ft of you and also list places like the pub that you use so he can be ordered by the court to stay away.
Make his life a misery the legal way.
