Joking aside yes. Not because of its looks as I think the blobeye is a pretty alright looking car, but becuase it was the most unreliable car I have ever owned. I was unlucky as I know most of them are sound, but in that 4 years I had 2 sets of front shocks and 3 sets of rears (4 under warranty), water pump failure, alarm failure, heater matrix failure and rear diff failure at 63K i.e. 3K out of warranty
It was religeously serviced and not modded so there was no excuse really.
After the heater matrix failure (£1200 bill) I traded it for a CTR and bought the classic ... it was like coming home LOL

what a thread....... f1 fan do you have classic posters in your bedroom as to help you reach a climax? you seem to be very childish for someone of your age lol. as for the carbon roof, is it a wrap?

That's not exactly the best looking car in the world & whilst it may not be "old" that's hardly a good reason to upgrade
TX.

OK being serious for a minute.
Well if had been reliable it would have been a better car than the classic, but so it should be.
The fact is though that I have owned 4 classics, done a total of over 350K combined in them with virtually no issues.
The newage I did 64K and it was a nightmare reliability wise. Now I know I was unlucky as most aren't like that (well they all have the shocks issue, but that aisde), but I am sure you can appreciate that having a car with that many issues would put you off no matter how unlucky you have been with that specific car.
I will also say that to me a classic 'feels' better to drive. I know it isn't as quick, but I get more pleasure out of driving it and have more confidence in it. The STI always felt just a little bit skittish except on anything but the smoothest of tarmac.
I have driven a hatch STI twice, but not for long enough to form any real opinions to be honest. It didn't grab me the way the classic did in its day, but it was certainly no slouch. Maybe one day I will get a proper drive n one and see how it really feels.
I am sure they are good cars, but the looks for me are a little bit too much.

I must be one of the very few that like all the Imprezas that Subaru have ever done. I love the classics but are getting a tad old now, no offence to classic owners. Yes I have a Bugeye STI which isnt to everyones tast I know, Im going to be selling it and getting eather a Blob or Hawk STI. I love both models but would like to get the Hawk as it newer still. I didnt like the Hatch when it came out but it has grown on me now but the inside still looks cheep to me and I havent quite made up my mind about the new saloon.

Yeah, but that is kind of my point. Despite the T2000 not being as fast as the 03STI it still feels to me a better car to drive. It gives me a level of confidence to chuck it about that the STI never did. Just my opinion of course.

I really don't understand F1_fan's comments on the chucking around.
Maybe the geometry on the STI wasn't great?
I know that from my own experiences of the 02STI that it was quite tail happy(I was told that was because they had quite tight diff setups up front.
), where as the T2000's were more prone to a bit of understeer.
Anyway - each to their own and all that.
I too have liked each model and have owned all except the hawk.

My 2003 STI used to understeer like mad
The hatch was way more positive... just needed the 22mm Rear ARB to stiffen up the roll...
And Mitzi's 200+ unsold 2008 Evo X's still sat at the docks will put a spanner in F1's "The hatch has ruined Subaru's UK market"
Now go get some T-cut on ya Pink motor

Classics seem set up for understeer out of the box, but with geometry tweaks and stiffer roll bars they can be made to understeer, oversteer or anything in between.... your choice really. Same on the newage cars. Yet no matter how hard I tried I could never get my newage STI to feel the way I like it. Horses for courses I guess.

I don't think any of the 'classic' crew will ever be converted, they are stuck in their ways and living in the past (do you still have cassette players and VHS too ).
I've had two classics, loved them... had a hawkeye, loved it.... now have a hatch, love it Maybe i just love subaru, ever the ropey old ones that chavs drive (unless they have lexus lights )
So do we not like the carbon roof then

Subaru really have been making a pig's ear of their design and marketing strategy since the Impreza was launched. FFS the hard work had been done, rally wins in the bag and a fantastic (for the time) car. Lots of loyal customers with money to spend. Up steps Design Dunce and lo and behold take a winning fomula and make a complete **** up! Subaru have been playing catch up since.

Only thing worse than buying a hatch is being silly enough to buy a 2.5
JOKE !
I own a Classic and a Hawkeye and would happily own a JDM Hatch.
The classic is the most sensual to drive, mine is stripped out and has none of the aides and refinement of the newages. That said the newages when set up properly are equally good.
Looks wise, Prefacelift classics are the origiinal and best looking IMHO, but tbh as long as it handles and doesn't blow up it's a good scoob (make of that what you will )

I don't mind the hatches being honest but i don't think i could spend my hard earned on the uk spec, would have to be the jap 2litre just for peace of mind. I also agree with 53wrx about the pre facelift classic being the best looking, i have the pre and post facelift classics and to look at them in real life the pre just looks that much cleaner. My last one will seem strange to some, in my eyes the worst looking impreza is the hawkeye, just looks like a bad rip off of an Alfa thats got fat.
