Quality policing of student demos - NOT!!!

I thought he did well this morning. Good lad for taking the opportunity for sticking the boot in. They didn't know what to do - either talk over him or let him carry on. Breakfast hosts are truly inept IMO.

I didn't think he did himself any favours to be honest. Left me in no doubt he wasn't just a peaceful protester. That's why I thought they were trying to shut him up, before he lost all the sympathy votes.

I say bring the army to police the streets a bit right winged but would sort out crime on the streets. Do you think some yob is gonna try and steal your car when a soldier emerges from a bush with his rifle and bayonet on.

Further to add paris is policed by the french army i was there for new years eve and a few things kicked off but as soon as a squad of soldiers came running down the road it all broke up without them even saying anything.

I thought he sounded like a right **** on the breakfast show personally. Disability aside, anyone who declares 'I hope that every member of the goverment is removed from their seat like I was removed from my wheelchair' needs to grow up, shut up and go home.
Bunch of soap and tax dodging arseholes IMHO.

A lot of the police are as bad as the worst of the protesters and always have been always will be. I was batoned over the shoulder walking away from coppers on a May Day one whilst watching a sit down by protesters in the middle of the road. Thought my shoulder was broke and none of the coppers had ID numbers on in those days. I do think the student protests like other protests are stirred up by troublemakers and "anarchists" though.
Would the Police be more civil with just a normal helmet on? I think people behave better when they don't hide behind anonymity.

I do wonder whether all the 'gear' the officers wear does not promote a kind of 'revved up' mentality, and most importantly with a full helmet covering your face and head you kind of have something to 'hide behind', symbolically if not in actuality.

The police are their to minimise aggression and violence, not escalate it.
As a policeman on this thread has said, wheel them in their chair - maybe easier said than done, but surely the first option rather then the dragging thing.
Earlier in the day he was also hit with a police baton. Hmm, very savoury.
Oh, and regarding the comments regarding responsibility - the victim himself agrees he was putting himself in 'harms way' by using he perfectly legal right to make a protest.

Having soldiers deployed on our streets is called martial law - we proscribe it in other countries as totalitarian - thankfully we do not have it here.

While it's easy for some to make comment from just watching a video, as has been said, there may/is other parts of the story.
Also, while admittedly, not all cops are perfect (as in a lot of jobs)..I'd like a lot of people to step into their shows at an event like that. It's noisy, can be pretty intimidating and you get scared and therefore might not think as clearly as you normally would. If protesters are being violent then the adrenaline is going.
If you've been put in that code of dress with helmets and shields, more than likely something is going to happen....it's not just a precaution in case.
We don't get bad student protests up in Glasgow though.
Just the Protestant and Catholic marches

If he had been trampled and the cops said" I asked if he wanted to move, and he said no", they would get torn to shreds for failing in duty of care.
There are some rogues out there, doing dumb things and giving the police a bad name. But what the majority of them are facing is ridiculous.
Now turn to italy and see how their police are handling their riots.

You are missing a crucial part of the argument.
The police are public servants who have a duty of care to the public and should be trained to execute that duty of care.
Maybe the behaviour on the video is more dumb than dangerous or violent. It certainly does not make for good PR.

I mean who could think they could walk up behind some dozy newspaper seller and knock him flat to the ground, from behind, with no warning. It could never happen, could it?
What circumstances do you think are appropriate for a policeman to hit a man in a wheelchair?

if the said person was abusive or aggresive like any undisabled person. i have nothing against a disabled person and do not treat them any differently to anyone else and although what happened in the video was not right, i would of like to have seen what has happened before to find out why it has resulted in what it has.

Here's one of the same "bloke" getting helped (or at least trying to) by two police men claiming he'll get hurt if he stays there....
