I remember reading an article a while back in a car mag (can't remember which) where Clarkson commented on Subaru ownership, and how he admired the people that were so into Impreza's because they just ignore all the crap they get from everyone else and love the car for what it is, regardless of any negative connotations owning one has.

So based on that I'd find it believable that he would have an impreza, especially for this weather.

Type Uk, Spec D and RB320 are officially rated at 158mph.

All teh rest are are sub 150mph cars (officially before people start waving ******* about thier own Impreza's top speed ).
the problem with this is where did the 155mph come from? same place as the wrx came from, and if it came from someone who doesn't know a lot about subarus or cars in general they could have made some assumptions themselves. For example they may have just seen a subaru with a bonnet scoop and assumed (wrongly or rightly) that that meant it was a WRX. Then they go online to check the top speed and come up with 155mph, but where did they find that info? did they check for the right model, and even if they found the model they were looking for was that the right one in the first place.

Just as an example, I drive a subaru with bonnet scooop and a turbo, and a lovely burble. It says subaru on it but no model anywhere, just a little GT badge and a bilstein one below it, but that's easily missed. Most people don't know what it is, some people know it's a subaru but not which model, even most impreza owners don't know what it is. I'm not saying that's what it was in this case but you see my point.

Not that it matters anyway, but

Clarkson wrote an article on this non event in The Times over the weekend.
Seems he has a new STi saloon lent to him fro road testing.
He was generally happy with it and blamed his problems on other stuck drivers.
Not having a coat and wearing thin shoes didn't help either

But he said it was important, wtf is important about a new STI saloon except for the fact if it fails like the hatchback then Subaru are probably finished in the UK!

You are also assuming the Daily Mail have any ability in journalism. It may well have been a Raleigh Burner for all they know.

Anyway, it was a STI Saloon and will be reviewed in this series so I'm told.

You have to give it to Jason Plato, what an excellent response - I bet the OP must be left feeling totally humiliated.

If I were in JP's shoes and someone behaved like that towards me I'm not sure I would be that polite.

It was nice as well that he took the time and effort to post up further after he wiped the floor with the OP.
