tbh i owned a version 4 sti type r and yes it was quick ,and yes it looked nice with dccd ,intercooler water spray etc etc ,but i think my00 uk classic with a 2.5 and at the min td04 is quicker (simtec ecu 1.25bar) than the sti ,especially the tourqe around 340lb/ft 290 bhp to be confirmed in the new year!

Anyhow back on topic to the OP, sva's stock looks clean and in know of seen in the last week a few members mention thier cars came from them and that they have had no issues with them so far, the stock does look a little high priced but it is not a private seller, drop them a call and you never know rock up with cash in hand and you may sneak a deal out of them if not look here
https://www.scoobynet.com/private-fo...-for-sale.html
Owned by a member on here so the chances are t has been well cared for rather then a fresh import that has been left standing for 6'months and it is at a very good price
Best of luck with the hunt

the wagon had a vf35 mate. 315/320. ive nothing against uk cars at all but if i buy another scoob im gonna go jap for sure, just heard much better things in comparison to the uk car. if a buy a standard type r im hopeing it will be everything that my wagon was without having to spend ££££s to be satisfied with it.

All well and good lee but the op has said he wants a type r STD as he down not want to mod it,'not really interested in getting it mapped so no need to go down the 2.5 in a uk car route and it should be quicker or feel it to a more torque as the 2.5 has more low down grunt then a 2.0 but map a type r and get it just over the 300 mark and I am sure it will be as quick as your current uk car.

I used to have a 318BHP MY99 uk turbo and did plenty of tests with a 317BHP V6 Type R, from a standing start off the lights or rolling from say 30, there was nothing in it. they were completly equal, to which we were both surprised. They are both quick cars but the uk has the longer gearing and this is noticable.
I have a version 4 type R now which is just so much better than a uk car in nearly everyway, you wouldn't notice much of a differance from a version 4 over a 5/6 once the ECU has been changed and the front bumper swapped for a later one, yes they have styling changes or minor mechincal differences, ie seats are different colour, intercooler has different dump valve fitting and is slightly smaller, gearbox has older style casting.
There is a massive mechincal differance between the STI and the type R, not just number of doors.
They have:
DCCD
No ABS
Larger Rear Diff
Larger rear brakes (2 pots)/handbrake
Shorter gearing
Don't get me wrong, they are alot harder to drive than a UK car when you first get in them (Quite a few have been caught out in slipping road conditions when coming from a uk car) but they are so much better once you've picked it up

No ABS as that's is where the intercooler water spray bottle, personally never worried me as I drive with the attitude that everyone else is going to doing something stupid (which is more often the case nowadays ) so can normally predict 'incidents' and leave enough space etc.

As said above the v4 type r didnt have ABS but 2 pot brakes on the rear which are alot better than those on a uk car.
Personally if i had the choice i would go for the V4 STI TYPE R as this was a more driving mans car the DCCD is awesome if used correctly, i had mine sideways most of the time but make sure it dont catch you out nearly had me a few times....!

I've always used good tyres, goodyear F1's, Dunlop sport Maxx and now conti sport contact3 and this can feel very tail happy in damp/wet conditions. Always roll the DCCD forward if the road gets damp/wet etc but it still can be a handfull and requires some getting used too.
Perhaps this isn't the car for you if the misses is going to drive it and doesn't know alot of car skill or perhaps a course for her is in order

As said above can be a hand full even for the experienced driver ,didnt want to sound as though i drove it sideways everywhere but when they go they go pretty quickly, and if your not used to it can be frightening....! sorry didnt want to put you off.

Great thread! I've recently brought a V 5 Type R (99) that my uncle bloo the engine on and since passed away. Was left sat on my aunts drive for the last 12 months just had all the work finished. Went by train to Scooby Clinic to collect it. Ad's passed me the keys I didn't even know how too start it, he showed me and gave quick low down and off I went. That was back in November and I've been smiling ever since. They're AWEsome... styling, power and gearing.
I think your making one error that is colour... dark grey (Steel blue they call it) by far the best. Buy one you wont be dissapointed my mate prefers mine to his striped out M3.
