Yeah, you may need a few bits, that's why i'd like to see your engine bay so we can advise.

no offence to the op but i bet this car was advertised as a 300 bhp monster!
i hope you get it fixed - use a new mechanic/garage.

Yeah, no offence, but you could have a right dog on your hands here.
As i said earlier, i would of wanted a better 'product' for that money. Talking of ECU's, on the pictures you posted, there is a blue sticker on the yellow plugs. If that is a Z4 then the sticker should match part of the number on the case. If it doesn't then you need to post up what it is.

LOL

That should have been Subaru's ad campaign tagline:-

S U B A R U.

If you're not mending 'em... Your're modding 'em.

To the O.P., Steve (guy who writes in green ) really knows what he's on about here so stop panicking, relax, have a cup of tea and remember... there are lots of knowedgable heads on here who can help you with EVERYTHING from a buggered spark plug to a full engine rebuild.

Hopefully after seeing the mickey mouse job the previous owner did of your induction kit/MAF set up, it will be an easy fix.

I would personally go around the whole engine bay and check EVERY single electrical wire and connection. If the previous owner has bodged a connector or spliced something then that could certainly give you running issues. I know it's a different car and engine but on my old 205 GTi (which replaced the Scoob) the amount of connectors I had to cut off and solder new ones on due to the dunce previous owner was astonishing Sorted the running issues out on that car so may, just may help you here. Costs nothing to check the connectors, especially if other checks are uneventful in finding your problem.

Best of luck and keep us posted. Stuff like this if fixed is excellent for future reference

I'd be checking the speedo convertor personally for the original misfire issue if you have done all the obvious things.

What boost is it making when it is misfiring?

As said, there is no chip in your ecu, so someone has sold the ecu that was originally in there and mapped (if it was in there at all) and replaced with another ecu. We can only assume that the ecu is a Z4 as it is in a Z4 case ...

What manual boost devices are on the car ? - betting there is a dawes device or similar on the vacuum hose to the actuator at the very least.

only 2 bhp out!
as b13bat says, check the little sticker on the ecu plug matches those on the case. at least then you knwo its a z4 ecu. if they dont match then it could be the wrong ecu which can cause further running issues.
a z4 ecu produces 256bhp by the way.
does the speedo read accuratly? someone has put white dials in and they could have damaged the clocks causing your troubles.

hello yes the speedo reads accurate, today i took of the gash system of an air filter and put it all back to standard, fitted a new knock sensor and the ecu is only reading a faulty throttle possition sensor, which won't come till monday, i also took some pics of engine bay and car which im just about to upload, i will take another look at the ecu, it boost to 0.8 bar then starts missfiring cant get it to go above that, its got an greddy electric boost controller inside the car but it has been disconnected for some reason aging previous owner did this, is it worth my while trying to reconnect this

No concerns there atm, wait until you have the TPS fitted and see what you have.

Absolutly not atm. You need to get the car running A1 tip-top standard so you know exactly where you are.

Much better than i was expecting under the bonnet.
From a quick look, nothing that a little elbow grease and fettling won't sort out.

And the car itself, looks fairly tidy to me.

V-Power and Tesco 99 are fine, with V-Power just edging it for me.

I have a PolarPerfomance chip fitted but these are a little hard to find now.
The is a user on here Major_Sarcasm that sells them but i think he has run out of blanks atm, see this thread.
Also worth keeping an eye on this thread too.

Other than that, this is where i am going this year. Totally remappable and the update due has AL and LC/flat foot shifting iirc.
