Don't get me wrong, If subaru had a new car that had similar presence at a comparible cost maybe i would have stayed with subaru but 26k versus 33k was a no brainer for me and also the option to go up to 350bhp for the warrented upgrade appealed to me.
I see critisism of the interior but its still an improvement on my last scooby although i have not seen the latest impreza interiors.

Oh and the new interior whilst an improvement on previous Imprezas is still not that great.

I know where your coming from and i would have preferred a 4 door saloon, but the focus is not that much smaller than the impreza and in some ways more practical with the hatch.
For me it was all about maintaining the driving experience with a new car at around the 25k mark.

i've just replaced my 06 STi Hawkeye with an FRS mk2 and am well satisfied.
Obviously with the recent weather i've missed the AWD but the overall package for me is an improvement on the STi.
The power delivery is smoother and more progressive, i no longer drop down the extra gear for overtaking, and the engine and exhaust note match the scooby in standard spec!

Early days but first impressions are good!

I can only compare to my last car which was completely standard.
With my butt dyno, RS seams marginally quicker through the gears (disregarding less traction in 1st) but definantly pulls better than the STi between 2500-3500

I agree with your comments but my response was to Graham's suggestion that the RS Focus has excellent acceleration for overtaking when in a high gear with no need to change down. 50-70 mph time is an apt test for this scenario and 8 seconds is well short of class leading.

Doing 150 mph on the rare occasion that you can find 5 miles of deserted motorway is little to do with a cars mid range overtaking ability in top gear.

more like one mile and i dident say it did,the RS has tons of midrange and id id gladley put it against any slightly modded scooby
im not for one minate saying it would p1ss allover it but im sure it would be as good

Has anyone here had any braking issues with Focus RS's as i understand there is a recall out there which relates to vacum loss causing an unexpected and potentially dangerous loss of braking effort? Surely the last thing you want on a performance car.

my best mates older brother got a second hand focus rs mk2 reciently,
knowing im into performance cars he took me out for a blast as a passenger on a cold wet road.
i did think it was to bad, do not remember it wheel spinning all the time.
look awesome in white

I did really fancy a Focus RS, but I know whats its like with loads of torque and FWD - my turbo diesel spins its wheels even in 3rd gear

only in high altitude countrys, its a recall to update the pcm and something else silly(cant remember what), its not a major concern you would just get a harder pedal and unlikely to be a issue in this country

Yeah but the Focus RS is probbaly much better set up suspension and chassis wise than some old turbo diesel repmobile so while it may still be able to spin its wheels in some circumstances I suspect it will be a lot less than you think.

Yeah probably wrong to compare it with my torquey oil burner. There seems to be loads of focus RS's for sale online, there must be a reason this lol.

as are all the parts that make up the chassis dynamics; steering feedback, poise, balance, body roll, etc all add up to the handling characteristics of the car...you don't need lots of grip to have a great handling car, well imo anyway

In answer to Paulbu 's statement that 50-70mph in 8 seconds is not so impressive (something i've not checked 1st hand or with official RS test figures), I see subarus own figures are 9.1 seconds for standard 2006 sti and 8 seconds for PPP version (taken from PPP data sheet), which more or less corroberates my gut feeling about the RS !
I must add though that at 50-70 it is only revving at 1900 to 2600 which nobody is really interssted in, in my previous post (96) I was stating an improvement over the impreza from 2500 to 3500rpm.
