Stop the press!
The biggest compromise with the 3 series would have been the lack of boot space. So, a Superb Estate SE has just dropped into my banding! 1.6 Litres of oily power but a low BIK tax, huge boot for bikes and kids and more toys that you can shake a stick at!

I know, I just have to keep telling myself that 105PS is all I need for 99% of the time.
For that other 1% of the time, I might have to dip my toe back in the MX5 water and try not to buy a wrong-un this time!

It just seems to be getting worse and worse. They'll be a stage when small hatches have 20s as standard and "economy" cars will need massive rubber and the associated costs. I just think it's got a bit silly.
Not all big wheels break of course but they are more prone to kerbing and breakage due to ultra low profile rubber. We live in the UK, not on a race track.
It's brilliant having an "anti victim" Landy with 16" 235/85s...
Anyway, it's an "argument" that gets me nowhere so I'll stop.
Agreed. The 19'' wheels on the F10 look small, so much so that if funds allow I'm considering 20''
Don't get me wrong, I'm not somebody who is into some sort of ghetto bling, I hate it. But as you said they've done something to the arches on the F10 that make even the 19'' wheels look weedy.
The better (and cheaper) option will be to slap on some Eibach lowering springs.

Hmmm.
The 1.6 CR engine is not that fast in an Octavia I'm trying this week, never mind a Superb. Lots of dropping to 3rd in order to pull out to overtake safely on a busy motorway.
I've got a 320D ED over the weekend. Let's see if it is big enough.....
