I am, only have people I'm actually friends with in real life and its perfect for sharing news on the baby, with photos and such.
Saves me texting and phoning people.
I don't have many people on there, as I figure if I don't speak to them in real life, why have them on FB ?
As for being sad for having FB, FB is as sad as SN .. only on Scoobynet you only talk to people because they share an interest in a vehicle, so I'd say that was a bit sadder

I wasn't until a week ago. The Mrs has been for a while.
I kept on that it was a load of ****e.
BUT, I've recently got in touch with friends I hadn't contacted for over a decade.
I mainly use it to promote music.
I don't accept friend requests from people I don't know. And all the games and apps, they can shove up their ****.
It depends what you want to use it for.
Most seem to use it to let others know their house is empty though!

I find it fantastic for keeping in touch with people from school, college, uni' and people I've met around the world. This morning I've been tagged in a photo of me and a bunch of pals from a field trip to Denmark. I would probably never have seen that photo had it not been for FB.

Not really. You can 'go offline' on FB so nobody would know when you were actually on.
I haven't been nudged/poked since the very early days when it was all new. The main thing that annoys me is game requests, but that really is my own fault, and a cull would probably sort most of that/group requests, but they can be easily ignored or deleted.
I only go on a little bit (far less than here) and tbh I'm glad I do. I have had incredible support from some people, most that I don't see much (and FB has been a good way to keep in contact) when I've needed it the most. It's actually highlighted some really good/true friends. Most of the people on there that annoy me strangely are the ones I see everyday/did class as friends, Micky excluded.
Oh, and it has the odd few games that are fun and pass the time if bored.
I think alot comes down to how a person uses it.

I was on it until I realised how much of my life I was wasting on it, so deleted it.
I should add that deleting an account is not the same as deactivating (and is much harder to do). And even though I have deleted my account, I still get the occasional email from Facebook claiming old friends have asked me to come back (even though they haven't) and it still remembers my name, and who my old friends were, so be in no doubt that even after you delete your account, you are very much still on their databases!

I'm thinking of leaving it - but I've said that for the past year or two.
I've had a least two 'culls' where I 'un-friended' loads of people.
Not neccesery people I dislike, just who I would not be in touch with or have no reason to be intouch with, without Facebook.
It's too easy to accumulate a huge number of 'friends' and the whole thing takes on a superficial quality and air of instant gratification.
Also I just find the whole thing massively banal and also I resent the dependency it imposes, plus I have issue with the way Facebook can and does mine personal data. One reason I have almost zero peronal data on it.

But please continue making your argument. I just don't get why there is SO much negative feeling about something that is not really fundamentally different to Snet.
It's not like is made by Apple or anything, is it?!

Pontificating
Especially when you have a distant mouthy chav cousin once removed on there that calls anyone that vex's her a ****.
Pee's me off when friends come round for the weekend or dinner, take photo's of us and our kids and then whack them on arsebook without our consent

Well I connect with them on here so why not (as in PMs not just public stuff).

In that process I feel I have become part of a community and it is like a pub, I dip in when I want to.
Why would I decide to join FB? There is no real compelling reason like there was with SN except to interact with people most of whom I won't know or used to know and don't want to any more. As for my current friends why would I want to FB with them when I can meet up or call them?
Then you gte the problem of people syaing I tried to contact you on FB but you didn't respond or why weren't you signed in etc. etc.
It's like that pub has been moved into your house and/or workplace.
Just how I see it.

I have a few mates who no longer live nearby and a few in other countries. It's nice to be able to share pics and comments etc.
I also get updates from a few businesses of sales, discounts, offers etc which is very useful.
Sure there are other ways of managing this information, but after I was initially reluctant to join (saying many of the things in this thread) I'd not want to be without it now.

Through what I do I have friends/business contacts all over the US, UK and Australia. We have a common interest and FB is one of the best ways of maintaining that community of people - most of whom know each other.
We gathered through a common interest - now it is like a global virtual juice bar (wouldn't catch me in a pub ).

Forums like Scoobynet are dying on their ****, Facebook makes online discussion groups simple and presents them well.
It's also a great stalking ground.
