I'm glad that you, at least, agree that the Honda will get to the 250 mile marker before any Scooby
In fact if the Scooby is really trying to keep up, the Scooby will run out of fuel at the 125 mile marker
If it's modified then the stakes are raised, the Honda wins after just 100 miles!!
If it's modded AND mapped then I will be home and the winner at 75 miles!!
All in all, win, win, win and win again!!

LOL..
Mind you, we must factor in some "posting on SNET" time here, by the time PSL has spent 20mins posting on a Subaru forum all things that are great and good about his Massey Ferguson, John Deere, Honda or whatever it is; he will indeed be getting there in a firm 2nd place.....but he will feel good, since he will have preached to Subaru owners, on a Subaru forum the good of owning a Honda Diesel....
Wood burning stoves by the way are also far more advanced than that new fangled gas central heating, that is for city slickers....and chavs. As for double glazing, that is black magic, and those with it are burned as witches.

I didnt really agree to be honest, but I didnt want to get in to a yes it will no it wont argument, when there was a much better point to make about how your time is spent over those 250miles.

ok, so we know the Civic diesel is economical and good enough for 95% of the time, compared to a WRX, etc, etc.
What happens when you want 4wd, for the snowy winter lanes and annoying wheelspinning mums with BMs, Mercs, etc ? A bigger car for child taxi duties, and capable of being a reliable workhorse, economical (which rules out WRX/STI), but with enough grunt to move along at a reasonable pace ? And mustn't cost the earth, of course.
Any suggestions, Pete ?

For someones opinion on the Honda Civic in general conversation outside of this 'Im firmly in my corner' thread
Post 9 referring to the picture in post 1.

I think in answer to you original question Pete there are plenty of people who havent thought about giving up Scooby ownership considering the fuel prices.

I have to admit PSL has a point. Let's face it, the Honda diesel has serious advantages over this Dodge Charger Hemi.
But who gives a toss about them?

Fuel is high priced, pro rata to wages 40yr ago still on parr, run turbo diesel for work 48- gall
Scooby for fun 30-gall,if fuel went short how many of you would fill up sod the cost?would I sell my Scooby no, I did not buy it to tow a caravan,be economical, cheap to run,run on parrafin, use Tesco oil,I have a piece off highly tuned rally car for road use that always makes me smile. The IMREZA gets used as an all round car but owners forget what it is an animal !!!

In April, when it's £1:50 a litre I'm sure that many will see the logic in the words I speak.
Of course, that's just the start - in Summer it will be £1:65

No you werent just asking you were being an ****. Doing nothing but belittling the car that this forum is based around and trying to devalue it with some potentially damaging comments. The number of pages this has got to is a joke but Im you feel smug about it.
To everyone else lets just let this thread go and sink to the bottom of the pile by resisting the urge in replying to what Im sure will be another ill placed comment from PSL.

The things to remember when posting on a thread that PSL has started is that he will repeatedly:
1. Ignore blatant facts and expert opinion.
2. Have already worked out how to atagonise as many members as possible.
3. Post the same old answers ie win, win, win.
4. He was banned from a Civic forum for atagonising their members, on I believe his first thread.
5. He has be banned on here more times than an habitual drink driver.
It is worth reading for the sheer entertainment value that he provides, as he posted previously I believe on this thread that he said he is unique and one of a kind...
And thank god for that.

Dear god, take a chill pill and enjoy the banter - or, just don't read it!

I wish it was!!!
The MF8600 looks a cracking beast .... 370 HP, 8.4Litres and 6 Cylinders .... 3500Nm of Torque too!!!
What a set of figures ... would make all the Dyno Graphs on here look rather weedy

I have to say, i really am not impressed:
2006 Honda 2.2TDI
2204cc 16v four, 140bhp@4000rpm,
251lb ft@2000rpm
Transmission: Six-speed manual,
front-wheel drive
Performance: 8.6sec 0-62mph,
127mph,
54.3mpg,
Impreza STI 2006
6 spped manual AWD
Engine Size 2457
Horsepower(Bhp) 276 @ 6000
Torque 289lbft @ 4000 = 392nm (@ 4000 RPM)
Top Speed 158
25.9 mpg
So STI has 300CC more and 140 bhp more, so double, uses twice as much fuel for twice as much power (bhp)...so you could say they are comparable in cost per BHP>? STI costs the same to run as Honda Diesel per unit of horse power!...interesting indeed, cheap motoring by SUBARU
How you have dragged 11 pages out comparing these 2 is a thing of beauty....glad to have been able to join in. By the way the above are just lifted from review sites, so dont bother contesting them, they are what they are.

Well, strangely enough, I am the only one who can speak with authority on this matter.
Having actually owned both, driven both, paid for both and experienced both.
Therefore, I will thank you to have some respect for your elders!!
Whoever gets to the petrol station first doesn't really matter - as the Scooby will be stopping for 15 minutes to fill up!
So, taking this a bit further, on a journey of 250 miles the Honda Civic will get there first .... simple maths - fact - truth .... one will arrive in a stunning modern diesel, the other will arrive a bit later in a ChavMobile

Thing that makes me laugh is you keep calling em chav mobiles but admit to wanting one but being too tight to fork out for one and then bang on about the price of fuel reaching 1.50 a litre so your better off, but really we all know that you are just a miser and have settled for second best because of it .

I understand the banter and can appreciate it, however there is a serious side to it regarding petrol costs as well. Anyone looking for an Impreza, if they are like me, would research and generally come across websites like these and threads like these, especially if the boy/man racer is a bit more forward thinking and does a search on Petrol prices, MPG, fuel efficiency etc . I know its a bit of fun but it doesnt do anything to help or promote the car and may put doubts into peoples minds. I have been put off a Boxster and a (cough, cough) TT in the past from reading threads like this. Now I may be giving your thread way too much credit but this is the no.1 Impreza forum and general section the most popular.

Cost Prices:-
Honda - £17500
STi - £27000
£9500 difference!
Retained Value after 3 years:-
Honda - 52%
STi - 27%
You know all about the running costs - the Honda costs 1/3rd of the STi
For very, very, little driving experience difference.
Just how it is ..... I love Scooby's - they're just extremely expensive for little relative reward these days and I wondered who, if any, had considered jumping ship like many others have.
