Why do you have such a fixation with people having a scoob in the current climate?? Or is that the real reason why you no longer own a scoob, you was unable to afford running costs.......
Still waiting for them pics you was going to post up of the PSLewis "white elephant" wagon.....

I haven't read all of this thread, but my answer to the original question (or trolling) is no, fuel prices won't be making me sell my car.
I think i'm similar to many others on here. My car is my only vice.
I don't drink, smoke or do drugs, .... and my only 'expensive hobby' is my car.
£1.45 per litre (which i'm sure we'll see soon) is certainly excessive, but it's still cheaper than cocaine or hookers!!!!
I work bloody hard for my wages, and if spending a bigger chunk of it on fuel means i have a big smile on my face after a Sunday morning 'spirited drive' then so be it.

Maybe the drugs are the reason I have given up the Scooby vice then? ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
I suppose that some will drive a Scooby whatever the cost? Thats admirable loyalty I must say ...... because there are cars just as good these days.
And, Moley, you know that trolling is against the rules and I would never do such a thing!!

It is a good question though, and i'm sure there will be plenty of people who'll sell up.
(i'm not loyal to Subaru BTW, just always fancy having some kind of performance car)

It certainly seems to be happening.
I'm getting quite a few people ringing to change cars, saying they can't afford the petrol costs of a performance car anymore.
Also a LOT of people who want to keep their Impreza's and are buying cheap runaround cars to use everyday (like i've done)

If you aren't using one to commute, the extra cost hardly makes any difference. Most of it is down to the hype. I don't see any used as company cars!
I recall one old guy coming in telling me he was going to sell his classic Granada as it was using too much fuel. I asked him how far he drove it in a week. 80 miles tops. The saving on a cheap runabout was sod all, and he wouldn't have had the pleasure of his brilliant car. He kept the Granny..
Another one asked me about putting a gas conversion on his 1956 Chevrolet. I was horrifed, and stamped all over that idea!
It turned out it was to "save fuel"
I fished out a calculator, something he obviously didn't own, and worked out that with his mileage (3000 a year) and the cost of the stupid conversion, it would take at least ten years to pay for it. Plus, of course, he would have ruined his fabulous classic car. Tut.

Of course, the lower the mileage the better value a Scooby is ..... but then you are enjoying it for a fraction of the time you could be enjoying another, more economical, car.

So extrapolating the gist of your argument, presumably you'd prefer to have so so average sex every day with Susan Boyle than a very occasional but joyous encounter with Kelly Brook?

Sorry, I wasn't allowing for your age there. I don't suppose it matters either way does it?

What I am saying is this ..... ***** 1 is fantastic for sex but costs £1000 a night ...... ***** 2 is just as much fun, but only costs £50 a night.
Scooby owners take ***** 1 once a week .... people who have moved on with the world take ***** 2 every night.
The Scooby owner believes he is getting better sex with ***** 1 once a week, than others are getting every single might with ***** 2 (they haven't tried ***** 2 because ***** 1 is so intoxicating and they are very old fashioned in their attitudes, refusing to accept that ***** 2 - at £50 a night - could possibly be as good)
Those with ***** 2 and getting excellent sex, every night, for £50 are laughing at those so blinkered that they are enduring excellent sex once a week for £1000!!!
That's it in a nutshell .....

Aside from me being far beyond an interest in sex ..... it's not what I meant.

Pete, can you please do us all a favour and list all these cars that are just as much fun for a fraction of the cost? No oil burners please in the list.
For reference I get about 23mpg for my 350hp of fun.
The car is paid for, so fuel, maintenance and insurance are the costs I'm interested in.

I have listed one ... my Honda Civic Type S ... 'fun' is far more than BHP .... I'm not saying it's MORE fun - but equal fun.
For a tiny fraction of the running costs ....

I might have to sell my Type RA soon due to buying a house. All costs involved with running the car contribute including spiralling insurance & petrol costs
. Being 23 doesn't help either!

You have my sympathy if your daily sex life is with a Susan Boyle.
