All depends how big the win is! A million or less would just be a house, a modest car and the rest in the bank and carry on working.
If 5 million or more then first on the list would be cars and motorbikes galore, the biggest dilemma would be which dealership i'd be going to first.

I'd buy a race track,a nice selection of cars and just play racing drivers allday
or on a sensible note buy about ten flats, live off the rent and have me pension sorted out

I would buy the board of directors out at Wakefield Trinity, they have ****ed it all up and now we look like we'll get kicked from the Super League. £500k is all it would take.

i would drive my company van into stratstones car park torch it, then buy something, and ring work to come and get the remains of the van,

As Bravo says it depends how much. A friend won £800K in a syndicate win. He doesn't work but has some rental income. He can't exactly live like a king but he's comfortable enough.
Under £1m, clear debts, invest the rest and draw an income of around £30K pa. Continue working or ideally use the drawings to support me going to Uni in Swansea and do the motorsport degree.
Full beans £4m win then first thing I'd do is have my Jeep Cherokee shipped over to the states to have a Corvette LS engine conversion.

I would,
Get the extension done to the house, as I want it.
Nice AV/Cinema room
Get the whole house decorated, top to bottom, new doors, new carpets etc.
Rent a lock up garage and fit it out with loads of kit so I could have somewhere to work on my cars.
Would buy stuff I fancy on Ebay car wise, not mega expensive, projects and do engine swaps.
Put some away for the kids for houses/cars etc
Few nice holidays, nothing ridiculous
Perhaps join a Supercar club, no desire to own one outright though.
Buy better wine !
Suspect I would stay at work, at least initially, depends how much it is, a couple of million sounds a lot but potentially its not enought to see you to retirement, especially if you get a bit "Brewsters millions" with it.
Give some to family/friends

I dont really, actually want that much, would just like a little more month to month, take the pressure off a bit but sometimes I think we need that pressure, a certain amount, too much money pressure is no good but I think you can have too much, makes you lazy and there are only so many things you can buy, you run out of stuff to do, this is why the mega rich take on causes to champion or go mental, we need to strive and be made to wait for stuff, most of life is about anticipation and nostalgia, usually the actual doing is less fun, we need to build anticipation other wise its like going through life like a computer game on a cheat mode, fun for a bit, but before you know it you have done it all and are bored.
I think, if you are miserable for reasons other than lack of money, then a lottery win wont help and I think too much will cause problems for most, nobody needs 86 million dumping in their lap, too much in one go, takes you too far out of your previous life and you cant go back, I reckon, for most people of normal income and bank balance, 500k is the amount that would make a lot of difference but without changing everything totally, its enough to help but totally go under the radar, not enough to be big news and an amount that for most could be disguised so as to not look like lottery winners but still get some nice things.
A lot of people win on the lottery and get alienated from their friends and family, its amazing how people fall out over a few grand, have seen three otherwise happy sisters hate each other over momney, ok, it was on Jeremy Kyle but it did make me wonder, if they do that for a poxy twenty grand, what would they do for 86 million ?

Firstly I think I would either clear my Mam's mortgage/buy her a new place. If I can't sort her health out, I can at least see her alright moneywise/stress.
Then I would pay off debt.
After that, I'd either do up the house we're in (maybe buying out the neighbours and knocking into one) or move. It would just be nice to have a house we can really call our own.
Then, spend some money on the car. It could do with a makeover. The other half may want more cars, but even though I don't drive, I've become really attached to ours.
Along the way, eventually have a holiday. Doesn't need to be anything fancy, just get away. If we're talking about millions, it would be quite tempting to get a place abroad.
And finally/possibly firstly (ignoring silly spending) what would make me very happy is if I won enough to tell work to shove their job up their ****.

For an average lottery win that leaves me with £3m to buy a couple of businesses to give me an income.

I was watching some program with a psychologist who said that winners tend to fall into 2 camps. Ones that blow the lot within 3 to 5 years and ones that save and make it last.
Anyone remember that couple that were on TV a while back because they were on the state, unable to work due to what appeared to be a complete lack of intelligence, won the lottery, spent the lot on holidays and a caravan, then went back onto the state. Hilarious.
I'd keep my Jeep but get a 22B and some powerful estate for daily duties - Euro win I'd buy an F40 as well. Not sure you can support an F40 on a £4m win.

I have given it a lot of thought actually over the years and as I actually do the lottery, it's got to be something to consider!
I would firstly leave my job. If it was a substantial win Dave could give up his too, but would depend on how much obviously. I would then pay off the mortgage and get all the jobs in the house done that I have been putting off. I wouldn't move immediately because you really need some thinking time.
Big purchases would probably be a couple of cars, sod the road tax and petrol prices, but I am a simple creature, so an Audi convertible would do me and a Porsche Cayenne for him. I would get a fully carbon road bike so I could be a couple of seconds faster on my summer rides
Once the initial furore had died down, I would look to spend the ski season in France/Switzerland/Austria/Italy and the summer season wherever I wanted. Probably look at getting a property in a ski resort which would offer plenty to do in the summer too. I would buy a campervan and travel across Europe. I would do a holiday where I drove route 66 across the states. I would ensure if I saw some shoes I wanted, I would buy them, but would still have a sense of value for money, i.e. not paying for overpriced designer stuff because I can.
I would get Hollie enrolled in a good private school, possibly as a boarder. She is intelligent, but lacks motivation, so the smaller class sizes would benefit her.
The long term plan would be to get into property so I would have something in my retirement to live off. I would do some of the work myself to reduce costs, but give work to our local guy who does work for us at the moment. He does a good job and I can trust him.
So there you go, nothing too flash, but I hope I would ensure I never have to work for anyone else ever again.

I think I would make a good lottery winner, would make it last and drip feed myself treats rather than just getting everything in one go, life is about savouring the good bits and if you just blunder through it buying stuff you end up overloaded and unsatisfied.
I get satisfaction from stuff that doesnt cost anything a lot of the time, a job well done or whatever, money is a blunt instrument sometimes, especially in the wrong hands, especially those who think a lottery win will make everything wonderful.
I enjoy saving money by being frugal, managed to get 52 mpg out of the wife's car this morning by anticipating things, being gentle with the throttle (but still doing a decent speed), she manages to get about 35 by being all throttle , brakes and no anticipation whilst being in one gear lower than she should be.
I would go to more gigs and take the kids, would probably use taxi's more for going out, just little things, nothing too ostentatious as I think the main thing it buys you is time to indulge hobbies and stuff and the money to pursue them effectively, would definitely buy a lockup, or buy a house with a decent set of outbuildings to do car related stuff in.
The main thing for me though, would be freedom to not have to justify every purchase to myself but mainly the wife, sold some old stuff on Ebay to buy an Android tablet and she was expressing her displeasure at me buying it, so I just said, I may as well hold onto my old crap if I just have to put it into the joint account !

A house on a hill in nice condition, and with a good sized field for my Ham radio aerials with no close neighbours and a view of the sea.
I have got all that without the field at the moment.

The first thing would probably be a takeaway! No chance i`m cooking Tea after just winning the lottery!
My work keys would be handed in the following morning, I would rent / buy a studio to further my photgraphy, which I love. Claire would probably quit her job too, and find something to do with careing for animals, which again she loves, probably with limited hours.
Car wise I would start off with a GTR as my everyday, and my current car would be a much more focused track toy. Maybe not straight away but I would end up with some form of Aston Martin for cross continent cruising.
The house would be swapped for something moderatley bigger, but most impotantley in a better location, with a huge garage! Would have nice holidays, but nothing silly, like to see the world, not observe it from a fancy hotel.
I reckon that lot should be achievable on a normal lottery win.

Not too hard to do I wouldn't think? Off the top of my head I'd pay off the mortgage, get the house to how we really want it, set up schooling/Uni fund for the kids, lump sum to close family, lump sum to rainy day account, then whatever is left invest so that I can draw an income - rental properties, fixed income bonds etc. If that means income is not a worry then I would still work, I know I'd go stir crazy otherwise, probably local part time stuff between pottering around in the garage!
