Not ecutek.

Your ecu choices are:

Chip - £ebay special and lots of fingers crossed but will probably never run right and will cost a fortune in the long run
ESL - £550
Simtek - £995
Syvecs - £1600 ish
Apexi PFC - £second hand + mapping

People tell you not to put it in but you still do.

Some people just can't be helped.

Good luck with it mate, by the sounds of it your going to need it.
Or on the other hand, is this a joke thread.

When it comes to advice on mapping: listen to the mappers (i.e. the experts) on here mate. Engine mapping is never something you can cut corners on. "generic map chips" will never be as good as a custom remap and can be downright hazardous for your car's health.

This day and age, there is no excuse not to get a custom map; even the pre-Ecutek scoobies have a good range of options open to them.

yeah on snet is the best subaru site for answers there is a lot of pi$$ take and banter sometimes, snd sometimes u won't get an answer at all, that is because we don't know the answer or someone has asked a stupid question,

but the answers you will find are priceless and will help for a world of ease, in the months i have been on here even though i have been modding cars for years theses scoobies are a world apart from the vauxhalls i used to tune,

so stick with us ask the right questions, and respect the knowlage we all give, it's not a case of bolt it on and away you go, buy all your parts book it in for a re-map and then the week running up to your map get them fitted

Sounds like you have a PP chip copy. Prob some ****e ebay chip with a PP sticker on. Keep away from the ebay chips. The genuine Scott.T / Major Sarcasm chips are the only ones i would consider looking at.

In an ideal world ESL/Simtek is the way to go. But im running a genuine Scott.T chip with no problems. My fueling is spot on.

A couple have posted on this thread "ECU mapper" is a give away!

Here's a list of reputable mappers that come to my head.

Bob Rawle
Andy Forrest
Simon (Jolly Green Monster)
Duncan (RaceDynamix)
Richard Bulmer
Pat Hereborn

If you have a pre-99 Scooby that can't be remapped with ECUTEK you're looking at an ESL daughterboard that will permit your ECU to be mapped or Simtek ECU really.

I have no Greddy E Manage experience so I have no idea how good or otherwise it might be but if it was outstanding I would be using it.

More importantly you are looking for someone in the Blackpool direction. Why not make contact with Andrew Carr who goes under TeamCarr and is in Preston. andrew@teamcarr.net

it works okay. mapped a few cars using them where there is no option to use a standard alone ecu etc.. GTO, starlet turbo etc..

on the GTIR I would use Nisstune..
