You need the car mapped / chipped sorted. It could be a number of things.

I travelled from Pompey to Cumbria last week which is 330 miles on 1 tank of tesco 99 ron (£70). This was driving around 90 mph and going easy on the boost. Half this for urban use though !!

Why does he have to have the car mapped?
It's a 1995 and it only has a decat.
Yes, a map my give upto 10% improvement in economy, but at £300+, that will take a long time to recoup.

possible lambda sensor failed.. unless your on boost everywhere it should do more than 100miles to a full tank.

happy to check it

to OP if it is the early car with the lambda sensor in the headers, they fail often.. worth replacing and moving it to the downpipe.

lol @ thought of your wife turning the corner at the end of the road and then driving like Ken Block lol.

short journeys won't help due to the cold warm up using more fuel but 100miles to 50odd litres is excessive.

FFS - here we go again

I hate to break this to you, but it's not even close to being a rally car.

they changed around 95ish so it could be either in the top of the downpipe or in the headers below where the air filter is.

They also use Citroen C4's in the WRC as well. Would you consider the road going version a rally car also?

And you see - thats the biggest problem.

Folks think (or get) the impression they're invincible when they get in them.

The cars get associated (rightly or wrongly) with the real WRC machine thats been on TV being driven by a professional.

Impreza's bite - and bite hard I can tell you.

I bloody well know it mate! Was just kidding about ruling the world. Would be nice though...

you think because they are 4wd they are invincible. Then, just a bit too much coming out a corner, and WHAM! Back end is out, then game over. I nearly did it once the other day, wasn't even really giving her too much, and the back just moved out a bit - Just enough to remind you that your not above the laws of physics

Thats it

Once they "go" either the driver has enough skill to sort things out, or they panic.

When they panic and they're how shall we say "motoring on" - thats it all over really, probably backwards to the scene of the accident.
