Just recently I had my wheels off. I just bought the car and it had some "funky coloured nuts"-starting to rust. The tire place races cars, in fact several cars and when not racing are in the workshop. he said the standard Subaru wheel nuts are best as they were designed to fit the wheel properly. Too "tubular" in design can fail if a torque wrench is not used and the nuts are suffering corrosion.
I'll be looking for some bog std ones.

There re a lot of fakes available in the Alloy wheel nut market. RAYS have a document to help you determine if they are genuine or not - and a Chinese internet vendor sell 'D1 Spec' alloy wheel nuts in colours D1 Spec themselves don't even do!
Buy from a reputable vendor, keep them clean and lube the threads - use a torque wrench to 65Nm and you will be fine - mine have been on nearly 4 years now...
