no it has been that for as long as i have had a private plate (10 years) £80 to remove the plate and £25 for the years retention, to put the plate on another car whilst on retention there is no charge, except of course maybe your insurance.

Well I just finished and was excited to see my boost go up to over 0.5bar.
When I got to 0.6bar and changed gear I had like a slight whistle, kind of like when you blow a raspberry on a baloon
Now when I fully opened it up it was all okay....then it suddenly lost all boost and sounds like its leaking air. I checked all pipes and hoses etc around the turbo and the ones I took off but they seem okay. I have a feeling the noise is coming around the intercooler area but I cant find it?

Haha, Im used to that now... At least once a day i get asked if my name is Bill. Or as an example... filling up at the petrol station and i notice a guy keep looking over to me. We make eye contact and he says "nice car Bill". I just go along with it now

Check the intercooler pipework. Its a common failure on old classics. Best thing to do is actually remove the intercooler then you can check the pipe properly.

Hope this helps,

BILL

Why would you want to rev it with the intercooler off? If you want to eliminate the intercooler just remove it, examine and then refit. 20 mins max. Then you need to examine every boost hose very carefully and replace if neccesary.

Yeah, sounds like I/C pipe. It should be a solid black pipe with a flexi in it, but it could of been replaced with a silicon item, which if not very well secured will pop off. As Bill says, best off removing the I/C to get a good look. 3 bolts and a jubilee clip.
Do not run it with the I/C removed.

Does the BCS click as it should??

Hahaha cheers 'Bill'

I will pull the IC off in the morning and have a butchers. The BCS works perfectly. It also worth mentioning that it idles slightly eratic after the whoosh noise.
I hope it is just that pipe, will be nice and easy then

My Mrs popped the I/C hose last week (heavy footed bint). They run like a bag of spanners due to the intake of un-metered and un-filtered air being sucked directly in to the engine, not healthy.

Just a thought, is the DV secured properly and fitted the right way round, with the arrow pointing toward the front ish of the car?

Hey all just letting you know I found the problem...it was the pipe under the IC, the seal had gone. I've fixed it now and cant believe the difference. I got 1.1bar at peak boost so I'm over the moon.
Your right too...it is now a different car!!
Cheers all

Well done fella!

1.1bar, now you've got it!

Edit: 1.1bar is above standard, it may be worth checking the ECU for a chip or ESL board.

It varies slightly depending on which ECU you have fitted, there are a few that are directly interchangeable. Which is why you should check which you have and what is inside it as none are 1.1bar standard.

All these will fit your MY:

Oh yesh! MY92 to MY96 with the yellow 4 plug socket.

But as i said, yours has something 'extra' as it is hitting 1.1bar. As you can see the highest OE boost cut is 1.1bar. You need to ID it, and then if necessary have the fueling and other variables checked to ensure that there is no knock/det occurring.
