Some truly awesome replies here ... If I had a pet lion and I let it kill your dogs, because I don't like that some people let their dogs **** everywhere .. would you be as understanding ..

The animal is not the concern, its the fact that these guys let their dogs kill someone's pet .. had they shot it (humanly) for pest control reason, then I wouldn't be impressed because I like cats but it wouldn't be worth a thread.

I used to have a dog and unlike cat owner I cleaned up after it when on walks and it's ALWAYS stayed on it's lead. It never jumped over fences and shat in other peoples gardens and for the owner of that garden to have to clear up the ****.............oh wait that's cats that do that.

Me too .. but then my sister has a cat that never leaves their garden .. and she picks up its **** ..

Seems to me, that because you don't like cats, you assume they are all the same and wouldn't care if they get ripped apart .. quite narrow minded that.

Why is a childs life more valuable ? I'm not saying its not, but I have a cat, I love my cat, my cat gets killed I get upset and am out of pocket.

A child dies in Africa and what changes for me ? this is pretty much the same attitude the people who don't like cats are taking ..

The point remains true though. It's a cat get over it, and to be clear i like dogs but if it was a dog i still wouldn't be going crazy like you lot are, there are far worse things happening in the world to worry about.

What is important to somebody is relative, just because something worse is happening elsewhere doesn't mean people should not care about anything else or get mad about anything else...it's perfectly possible to care or be angered by more than one thing in life.

Anyhow back on topic, I may not be a cat lover, however, what worries me is the attitude of some people out there. To think it's ok to be cruel, or just have no responsibility as another pet owner is shocking in my opinion. It's not just the specific incident, but what are these people like in other areas of their life? How do they behave towards other people/property etc.?

I'm not going to watch the video as I have a cat so dont really want to watch one being killed

Someone infront of me ran over a cat last week and just drove off, I had to go pick the poor thing up, it died at the side of the road

I'm not for a second condoning the act of letting your dog kill a cat if you could prevent it in any way, that is cruel and abhorrent.

I am pointing out that peoples reactions are so way over the top for something that does not affect them in any way.

It's almost like the place is full scousers who revel in other peoples grief.

I did, but so what? Could have happened anywhere in the country or is he trying to say Scousers like walliowing in grief more than other regional groups.

It would be a sad world if everyone out there didn't care about things that don't affect them in any way, imo.

Ok, to some of us this was just a cat, like to some people it's just starving/dying children in Africa (quite a difference, but the same notion can be applied in that for many, it doesn't directly affect them), but caring about whatever creature or person is surely better than not caring at all.

Well done sherlock

"Conservative MP and editor of The Spectator Boris Johnson was criticised last year after commenting in the magazine that Liverpudlians were "hooked on grief"."

In truth having never visited Liverpool or to that matter had many dealings with Liverpudlians I could not be in a position to make an opinion, there are however several events in the past linked to Liverpool that could lead one to have that impression.

Edit to add: It seems quite ironic that the cat in question was in Liverpool.
