who is selling there scoob rising insurance fuel costs

Does the Aygo not use any fuel then?
Each to their own though.
Like i posted on a similar thread, people say there are too many Subaru's on the roads these days anyway, maybe this is the 'treeshake' we need.
(check the excess if you're getting the Lotus for a weekend BTW, i though a Lambo for £500 was ok, untill i saw the £5k excess, and that you have to leave the £5k as a deposit)

£400 to hire a Elise for a 4 day weekend (+ fuel), and you can only do 300 miles.... can't see the appeal of that lasting long!!!! (only £1k to leave as a deposit though, not too bad)

Nope, runs on fresh air
Actually my car before the STi was a Pug 107 (same as the Aygo), and if I drove it "sensibly" then I'd be hovering around 64mpg. However on my 4am trips down the M40 to get to heathrow on Monday mornings it dropped significantly (Solihull to Heathrow Departure Lounge in an hour and a half).
Bonus point of it was that due to the engine/gearing it could only just do 100mph after a long run up. Pretty difficult to lose your license on motorway runs..

I sold my WRX in October and brought the wife a cheap Punto to help me save for my STi.
Still have the Punto for work and use the STi for fun at weekends. Got a great deal on Admiral multicar so not any worse off in the grand scheme of things and will be keeping mine.

I was thinking about it. With the baby here in June n all. But got that good Insurance quote. Keeping it this year defo, not sure about next year tho!. I use the van all week and some times weekend. It's when she goes on Maternity will find it hard! Need a car tho now with 3 of us.
Did look at: Audi A6-A8, Mondeo ST220, BMW E39 530-540 Sport, Lexus IS300 Sport.
Oh and my mates M3 E46 he's got for sale. That was Amazing to drive. Only £75 more to Insure and all. Crazy!
With only a £5K budget (give or take) it's not alot really.
Fancy some Comfort and Toys next time but still with around 200BHP.
My mates Audi A4 2.0TDI Sline 08 Reg is Mint. Not got £17K.
Did think of buying a £300 escort and using that But still keep the Scoob, It's the Manchester Post Code Killing me tho.

I bought my 2000 uk turbo in March last year and have done 2000 miles since then, I have a honda civic as my other car and a ford galaxy diesel work car,and if all else fails the mrs's Astra elite . Dispite this and the rising cost of insurance, fuel, tax, etc i wont be selling it.. £20 in the pub can last less than a hour ,£20.00 in the scoob lasts slightly longer.

However my old boss used to have one, he ended up putting more oil in the thing than he did petrol!
Then the engine blew up - I'm not sure if the two things are linked.

Yeh, very nice car. Actually nicer to drive every day than the scoob. Have to top it up with oil every 2 weeks. Bit annoying.
Used to have a 400bhp RX7 and although the RX8 is only half the power it is still great to drive. Very sideways very often! Even the wife drives it sideways everywhere. haha.
Still... back on topic.... Definately not getting rid of my Scoob with increasing fuel prices. All signs point to a steady increase in prices from on with no drop back down. Bugger!!!!!

Thinking of selling my blobeye sti JDM petrol prices are a joke for this car and I need a larger car because family is getting bigger maybe a 7 seater VW tourean ( i think thats what is called) or the 4x4 volvo both need to be desiels. No power but I can hire a car every so often to rag around.

I haven't got a Scoob but my Jeep Cherokee is just as expensive to run - group 17 and 4.0L petrol.
Am I going to sell - am I f*ck. I do so few miles its not a huge issue for me. Even with 17mpg I only use about £100 a month. If I walk to work it can drop to £50.
Personally, I might buy a classic scoob next year (the house has first dibs on spare cash this year) and keep the Jeep for winter and the scoob for summer. Run them alternate 6 months so I only pay one lot a road tax.

My blobeye JDM STI went up for sale on Pistonheads yesterday Don't want to get rid but circumstances dictate she's got to go . Hoping if things turn out well then a type R may be mine later this year . The running costs are quite high but it's worth it when you go for a drive , just can't justify it being sat on the drive 6 and a half days per week .

I only bought mine for the weekends so I'm fine, I have a 1.3 mk4 fiesta to use during the week
Counting up what I've spent on it does make me think but all those negative thoughts go away when I'm out on the road

Currently in the process of persuading the other half to swap her DC5 for an A3 TDI to use for our commuting. She hardly uses it anyway and the wagon's AWD is too handy in winter to give up (quattro A3s are too expensive).
She may however point out that its not quite fair that I get to keep my 2 scoobies

Well I said goodbye to my bug STi on Monday afternoon
My increased commute of 60 miles a day was too much in a low to mid 20's mpg car. I couldn't warrant buying a banger and have the Scoob sat on the drive for 5 days and then using it for the town runaround on a weekend, so it had to go.
Maybe one day when the kids have left home I'll return to a Scooby. But for now its a frugal but suprisingly fun Civic

Cold weather is not doing anyone any favours with fuel either. As most urban journeys are not long enough to get the car warmed up properly, there must be a fair amount of wear, sluggish oil and a rich mixture.
I've been thinking of a oil sump pad heater for a while now (about 30-40 pounds) on a timer to warm the oil up for a few hours before starting in the morning (to around 40 degrees celcius, apparently).
Apart from the reduced wear, less friction, and hopefully better fuel consumption, the time taken from start up to being able to apply full boost must be reduced, surely ?
Someone did an ambient temp / fuel consumption test here: http://www.metrompg.com/posts/winter-mpg.htm
A 10% saving on the fuel bill won't save you from selling the car (I get around 23-24mpg in summer, but 20mpg this winter), but it might help those determined not to go the way of the diesel civic.
Worth a try ?
