It's only when you break away from the Scooby mystical magic that you realise what a mad choice of transport it is ...... it is no longer the master of the road it was 10 years ago.
Many more logical, and fun, choices these days - which cost a Tenth of the costs of a Scooby.

Went in a Honda dealership today and the place was jam packed with people trying to buy Civic diesels, people were panic buying. Others were in tears because the dealer told them that demand was that high there was a three month waiting list.

If you are so concerend about running costs why dont you buy a smart car, that pisses all over your oil burning hondas mpg and probably more fun.

Might have to get rid of the forester, didnt mind when it was for my old 485bhp impreza but red light popped on tonight so filled it up to the top and it cost £72.56 could not believe it. Fuel prices are really making me consider a little hatch back desiel or something for my daily run around

I'm very glad I managed to find a tidy Focus recently for my wife, so the Scooby is no longer used as the main family car. That'll drop me from 10k miles per year to around 3k. Sellers were asking ridiculous money for any kind of smallish family diesel, I settled for a 1.6 petrol in the end as there is no way we will save the difference in fuel, even over a few years.
The Scooby recently cost me £67 to brim from nearly empty, using Tesco Momentum.

buy a smart that's what I did whn I had my scoob, 30 pounds road tax for the year cheap servicing cost and between 45-60 mpg brilliant run around insurance isn't that bad at all.
I've got rid of the scoob and I currently have a smart though I do fancy another scoob proberly in the summer.
i saw a thread on 22b where a mapper was looking into LPG. I would defo look at that route, cheaper petrol and tax.

I am thinking that I dont want to part cash to buy the next car, S4 or R36 but instead look at spending the money to upgrade my standard wagon.
I only do 5K miles a year so in the Scoob life is sweet, biggest headache is the tax, MOT, insurance and annual service all coming up end of Feb/early March.
Saying that the car will be 4 years old in March and is only at 17k miles.
Toot toot !!

i wonder how many people panic buy into buying diesels when small petrols would prob be cheaper and more economical for them :|
either way i dont like having my hand forced to be green and such, if i wanna be green ill carry on walking to work. (which lucky for me i can, or bike)
you can bet none of the extra money will end up maintaining the poor roads anyhow
i cant believe there hasnt been as much as a reaction when prices hit £1 for the 1st time

Well, after what I said the other day, I am actually considering buying another scoob.

Just got to get the insurance to a sensible level! Moley, wheres my quote!

Keeping mine
Chris from A Plan sorted my insurance for me after Direct Line tried to put my insurance up £400 for a remap and a few extra bits (and that's before renewal so who knows what would have happened then!)
I work from home 4 days a week which helps keep the mileage down (9k per year) so I'm happy I can cover the costs of ownership.

Smart Cars - Pah
I had one of the old shape fourtwos. Servicing was more expensive than the STi (quoted £530 for sparks, oil and filters)
Wasn't actually that fuel efficient - and blew up 60k miles - which according to mercedes is apparently a "good lifetime for that engine"
Sold it for scrap

At over £600 a month to keep & run the RB320 would i think of selling it?I doubt it ,then again i only use it two days a week & have another year of paying for it.Luckily i walk to work otherwise it would be a financial disaster if i had to drive it everday.

Ok - in a hypothetical situation -- one which I'm sure isn't going to happen in the very near future. There are some options on the company car list.
Now obviously these three are as far away from the scoob world at the moment, but I just need something cheap/efficient/etc. I wonder if anyone has any views?
1) Ford Focus Econetic (1.6 TDCI)
2) Polo Bluemotion (1.2 TDI)
3) Citroen DS3 (1.6 HDi)
Anyone driven these?

Currently in the process of persuading the other half to swap her DC5 for an A3 TDI to use for our commuting. She hardly uses it anyway and the wagon's AWD is too handy in winter to give up (quattro A3s are too expensive).
She may however point out that its not quite fair that I get to keep my 2 scoobies

The dealer also offered £4k for a 52 plate Integra DC5 with 40k on the clock. You'd pay £6k for a Cat C/D one privately
