The dealer also offered £4k for a 52 plate Integra DC5 with 40k on the clock. You'd pay £6k for a Cat C/D one privately
to be fair though with the dc5, he probably didn't have any idea what it was or how to shift it.

Thats exactly it. He also started going on about all the dodgy importers and how most were clocked before coming over here blah blah, even though we have a copy of the auction sheet and the jap history . He just didnt want the car basically.

Going to keep it anyway and it looks like a private sale would be the only way of getting its true value in future.

I worked out the other night (after reading this thread) that if I was to get rid of my STI and drive a diesel Astra SRI (the same as the wife has) then on fuel, tax and insurance we would save £1750 per year!
Her car doesn't make me smile when overtaking or make me look back as I walk to work though

And that's the crux of the matter isn't it?

You don't buy these cars to get you from A-B If that's all they do for you; save yourself a fortune and get a £500 runaround.

You buy these cars because they make you smile; because you enjoy the performance; because you take a glance over your shoulder to get one last look at them before you leave them parked up. They're not just transportation; they're a hobby (an expensive one) that can double as transportation. What price do you put on the above?

There are also much less healthy things to spend money on: Booze, drugs, Cigs, high class hookers......(did I say that last one out loud? )

If you can afford it, keep it and to hell with the expense - you only live once, you probably have to work hard for life's little pleasures and money is f**k all good to you when you're dead!

That's exactly how i feel.

Yeah we could all save money driving a diesel, but it isn't fun.

£717pm is heavy????.....come pay my bills for a month, lol....still drive a 2.5 STI, and i use it everyday, and always will, a snip at £435 p/y to tax. If you cant afford your scooby log off your computer, sell it and stop lobbying for support from everyone else....this is scoobynet not "tightasfek.com", or "MPG.net". I appreciate people's circumstances change fast, thats aweful....but so are these bl00dy threads about not being able to afford bugger all......move on.

If you want help making your mind up about selling a scooby, PM PSLEWIS, he can bore you sh1tless about the joys of "powerful" diesels, until you realise he is 80 years old, and your 30, in the same car.

This thread is unfortunate news for many as they see the their car as pride and joy, and handing over the keys to your car is sometimes hurtful if you have 100's of hours spend modding, plus much hard earned cash stashed in the car.... I think the moral behind this is how hard the current economy is getting, and getting the feelers out to who is in the same boat as the OP. I also had to sell last year for a short time 'as it made sense' for me, but I soon returned, not only that I have made some good friends on here, so why log-off as you put it!!!??

You must have read the Subject heading before / clicking the link / reading this, so why bother if your going to be an ****, you clearly just came on to be as annoying as PSLEWIS

I also appreciate how difficult it is for most Scooby owners, I've been there for 5 years, and I’m now looking forward to reap the rewards come March. My outgoings in reflection to my 'Single' earnings for a family of 4 are/were high enough to break us, but that was my decision and it’s paid off.... If you pay more and earn more or don’t have dependants you have no room to criticise other people’s views.........

You can look back at a Diesel like you do with the Impreza .... and it can deliver a lot of fun.

Just it costs a fraction of the Scooby ... times are a'changing

We aren't on this thread to try and convince ourselves that some diesel civic is as much fun as a scoob.

I'm looking at super eco diesels - all of which are going to be a fraction of the fun of driving an impreza. However in my case the fun/cost benefit has tilted in the wrong direction (not because of the scoob, but because I'm having to drive far, far more than I expected to when I bought it)

I have 2 children under 5, a house, my car, and my mrs car. 1 income (mine), and no "governement assistance". I have been broke as a joke in the past, now i afford what i have. I own an Impreza because i'm aware fully of the costs, i wont stop owning it because 5p went on a litre of petrol, however as i said previously it is aweful when your personal situation alters, and i truely feel for those who are in that situation, it could be me around the corner. Does that make me an "****", or "as annoying as PSLEWIS", well i dont think so.

What i do think is when you boil it all down, your not selling your car because fuel went up 5p, unless you do serious mileage. Your selling it because you wanted too, surely>?

ps, dont call me an ****, i never went into name calling did i>

Just seems abrupt to me.

If people are selling up becuase they can no longer afford a luxury that they have been accustomed to then that is pretty sad to hear.... My Insurance went up by 30% this year just becuase of my BB postcode The ever increasing cost of keeping a scoob on the road if moddified, plus fuel costs, road tax, servicing and general garage/mot bills is paining most people I know with a Scooby. This is something I consider everytime I buy another car, and if those that were to naive to even look into this are now selling then unlucky, but the fact is, if I spend X amount on running costs this year, then I should expect to pay at least a further 5 - 10% on the same again next year.. A 30% hike on Insurance in 1 year isnt something you may budget for, but then again if you live to your means and this caught you out then a Scooby is not for you.

even though I am selling, its not due to running costs.

I agree with you mate, Fuel price's ain't a great help, The way im looking at it is were i can walk i will, We use the missus car more as it does 45 + mpg, I still use mine everyday and certainly will not sell it, Im 25, i have our house both car's paid for and we are trying for a kid, I appreciate times are hard but im just keeping my head down working hard keeping the money coming in best we can.

I don't get the idea of changing the scooby as its not going to sell well in this climate and you would have to sell it cheap

Well I have had my 03 WRX from new and the past few weeks I have whinged my own face off about fuel costs. LOL
So, I went looking at BMW 320d. That moved to 330d, then 330d M Sport, then 530d, then 530d M Sport and even the 335 and 535d M Sports. Hahaha.
Suffice to say, I spent this afternoon on the Audi website configuring my "own" RS3. Wow, what a car that is, awesome. If only I had 40k for one.
