Again, I hear what you say. We'll have to see how it pans out, I have to say I'm nervous (but not as nervous as the whitehouse spokesman on Al Jazeera.)
Looks like we're waiting on the Army now. Decisions, decisions. How do you think it'll pan out?

I understand what you're saying but I just find it a bit obvious. Aren't they going to protect their interests?

Crude oil's jumped 5%!

FWIW one really doesn't know what way this will swing. If there's a real grass roots, sustainable democratic revolution it could be the start of a brighter future, but, it could swing the wrong way. The implications are massive! I'm excited and concerned in equal measure. The Muslim Brotherhood have broken their silence.

And then you turn the thread around??? , with a provocative comment like that!

Egypt, is not just Muslims, its Christians, Copts, & Muslims, who as has been said before, all live quite happily together.

What they ALL collectively don't like, is the current ruling party.

Well said...

Unfortunately JTaylor is 100% bias in these type of discussions so his point(s) are sadly somewhat pointless, which is a shame.

Mubarak has made his cabinet resign in a desperate effort to maintain his presidency.

Thats funny,

according to the data information iv'e been reading, the MB, are not the main opposition party.

There are 9 main left wing parties

There are 3 right wing parties

And there are 12 liberal parties

MB is one of 6 other groups. whose political allegiance is disputed.

They are also banned in Egypt, so how they can be the main opposition party is bemusing.

I'd google sectarian; violence and Egypt, too. All that aside, I'm right behind a secular and democratic and popular uprising where the Copts and people of the I****** faith can live peacefully. At the moment this is a nationalist uprising and one hopes that, should it be successful, the power vacuum is filled by an administration concerned with freedom of expression and conscience.

Won't happen, too much poverty and desperation. A 'democratic' government will fail like the Authoritarian one because the fixes are too hard and painful. This will only benefit the Islamists IMHO.

Evening, Tony.

I just hope the Egyptian people are able to usher in a leadership who's concerned with freedom and progression. There are clearly real concerns about what comes next.

Widespread looting and gangs roaming the streets. Vigilante groups forming, a complete breakdown in law and order. The security forces are absent. This is either a breakdown of the state or a very smart move by Mubarak. If the non-activists feel unsafe, they may welcome (indeed be desperate for) a return to order and stability which, of course, the Mubarak regime will be happy to provide.

Anti-American graffiti popping up, which will play in to the hands of the M***** Brotherhood. The Americans have to be seen to not interfere with the uprising in order to give a democratic revolution its best possible chance. Equally, they have be seen to be supporting the people whilst not allienating Mubarak incase the revolt proves unsuccessful.

Europe seem to be saying to Mubarak, "go quietly", America seem non-committal. This is a shift from yesterday where the West had a party line. Some power play between America and Europe, maybe?

The next 48hrs will be very interesting.

Ok, Geoff. If you wish to discuss whatever issue you have with me publicly, that's cool. I'd suggest we begin tomorrow when you're sober. Please feel free to start a thread in the appropriate forum. May I suggest Puppets. Sorry, Muppets.

There's a rumour that the entire Egyptian population are to be offered asylum in the UK. It would be a breach of their human rights not to.

Things have taken a turn for the worse, but perversely they have shown just how Egyptians have stuck together.

There is looting going on in some areas, and many of the protesters have returned home to protect there property, and government buildings / banks etc. Is someone or some group orchestrating unrest?

The press are calling them vigilantes, now

This is the worrying part, as this is potentially where the real instigators of the protests reveal themselves.

If as many suspect it is the MB, then its going to be a very rocky road. MB is very anti of the west, and against westernisation (sp).

Given that Egypt relies very heavily on tourism, and many Egyptians, are used to a very liberal lifestyle, to then have a group, try to remove that, could cause huge divisions, and potentially make the situation a lot worse.

Latest - AP: All Americans should leave Egypt now.

If that's the case let's have a demonstration against Mubarak here
