I was in the same situation dude when i was 22, although i had 4 years NCB.
I just used www.confused.com and found a half decent quote for £1800 from www.ecarinsurance.co.uk.
A year later, they requoted me £2000+, i'm now insured with Keith Michaels for £1500 with some mods all declared, power upgrades with have to wait till i'm 25 i think though, might get away with a exhaust system and remap, but i need to ask to see if they will insure this for me. I've got wheels, suspension, STI V spoiler, back box exhaust and brakes at the moment.
It is however a classic UK car, Turbo 2000, and this is/was group 17 (Groups changed i think?) with only 214 BHP, all the other models i had problems insuring, either cost or not getting a quote, luckly i wanted a Turbo 2000 ha, easy to get more BHP, has a turbo too and is an amazing car.
Insurance is very high dude, so even with a classic liike mine, it's going to be a lot higher than what i got a year ago.
I'm thinking £3000, that's what i was willing to pay.
Give confused and Keith Michaels (Ask for Gary as he's the Subaru specialist, although he could only quote me nearer the time my insurance was out, a week before or so, they are extremely busy all the time it seems. But no harm in asking.) ago,
Thanks
Sam

the intercooler wouldnt be cheap and the tweaking of pump n turbo cost 120 notes and going from 90 to 130-170 horses is a big difference, but its the torques that you want loads of. i want to get mine on a dyno later in year to see what torques im pulling, im thinking its more than my prezzas 228ft/lbs.

Fifteen. Thousand. Pounds.
Holy ****
Forget all the "safe driving" schemes and driver education. Just let people know that if they do something silly on the roads then their car insurance will be roughly the same as a deposit on a house *EVERY YEAR*. People would be driving like nuns.

ouch!! some prices are crazy. im now 30 and pay £425 fully comp and at 25 i was paying £860 on my classic.but i am in a similer boat as i now want 2 add my other half but shes 24 and has 7 yrs nc.only 1 company would do a quoat and it come back at £800+ but still not bad. the similer boat however is my mate who i go gym with.ive known him since a kid and every weekend he would come round 2 mine(nextdoor) and say i want ur car.he is now 18 and is mad on scoobies, ive told him his best bet would b a uk turbo? im i rite in thinking its the cheapest turbo 2 insure also his attitude is why spend aload of doller building a 200+ car when he could spend the same on insurance and buy a awsome car out the box with more tuning options.i do see his point.he is 18 2 yrs nc and no convictions lives in a good postcode so incurance companys would be great if any 1 knows of some.i use warwick davies at the mo but wont look at any1 under 25 and adrian flux quoated me and my other half.
thanks steve

With regards to getting insurance for an 18 year old. Would you let your 18 year old son or daughter drive your scooby?
Unfortunately there's a reason why insurance is more expensive for younger people, they are a higher risk - they crash more, not just their own car, but often into other cars.
Now in many cases, it used to be the cost of owning/running the car itself which made younger drivers avoid high performance cars - and hence the insurance, while still a bit more expensive, wasn't extortionate. but now you can get an STi for half the price of a new ford ka - the only thing keeping kids out of them (and hence reducing the insurance payouts and liabilities to the company) is by pricing them out of the market, until the point they are statistically less likely to cost the company money.
Interestingly enough, I was pricing up a second hand Jaguar X-Type 3.0 AWD around the same time as the scoob. Scoob price came out at £750, the Jag was about £300 - and wasn't much more if I wanted the 4 litre supercharged XJ-8. Mainly because young people want to be seen in a scoob, but not so much in their grandfather's Jag.

And it's the 30 year old ********* who make the general cost of insuring a subaru higher for everyone. Then the younger you are extra gets loaded on top of that too!
That said, while I tend to drive like miss daisy (no point getting nicked while driving for work, I'll take my time thanks very much), there's a bunch of little ******* on nearby estates with clapped out old classics and they drive 'em like they stole 'em
You don't see many 18 year olds ragging the **** out of a x-type jag.
Also, risk works on averages - there are loads of people who own (say) a Ford Focus, so if a few have a crash or drive badly that is balanced by the vast majority who don't. There are a lot fewer Impreza's on the road, so even a few crashes out of that smaller number push the average way up.

Stunned at some of the prices you guys are paying for insurance. Most I ever paid was £1200 and that was for a Nissan GTIR when I was 22.
2 years ago my classic Type RA was £400 for the year.
As much as I like Imprezas I wouldn't want to pay much more than £500 to insure it. My Jeep is group 17 and I pay nearly as much for that as I would for a classic Impreza.

Devon should be fine, i live in a village in the middle of no where so thats why mine is so low, not enough cars there so coarse any probs lol,
Yeah racing on public roads it stupid, i had a VW golf mrk3 pull up to me not 10 mins ago trying to get me to race i just watched him fly past, I have a brain, people like that need to sort it out, there the reason why we have to hunt so high and low for good insurance cause they are gonna be in an accident, its inevitable
