One bottle added, stop-start down the drive to shake it up, slaloms on the road and once oil temperature was up to 90, away we went.

1.6bar boost and no knock

Not that I do that much, but at least I know it's safe, and that French supermarket petrol really is crap. I'll have to look around for some better stuff. Cheaper to buy decent than to have to keep adding O/B.

Be careful out there Alacazar... We don't want a repeat of the result of your toll-booth tearaway shenanigans.

Or have you since moved to a FMIC, anyway?

Lost a valve on my 03 wrx on my travels through Italy. My fault though, not looking hard enough for V Power although they now have Agip Blu 100 ron.............shame came too late for me!

I'd be interested to know what your knock detector makes of Total Excellium, as there must be plenty of that over in frog-land.

NO, we DO NOT want a repeat...............

And yes, it now has FMIC and is fully forged, plus the KnockLink is at eye-line on the A-pillar around the outside of the Fuel Pressure gauge.

I used Tesco Momentum from start, it was fine. Fuelled up on the A14 with V-Power, which it was mapped on, again fine.

V-Power in France on the motorway, (HOW much a litre??????????), and then Total Excellium, all fine.

The problem started when I filled with supermarket stuff, supposedly 98 octane. And it's not that it lies in the tanks a long time as I've seen that lots of the French use it.

Trouble is, the house here is in the boonies, 30 miles from anywhere with a fuel station that sells anything BUT supermarket stuff

hi guys, can someone whilst on this subject answer me a question,

if using NF formula on a car thats mapped on 99, will it have any detremental effects by putting too much in? say you increased 98 ron to 102 or something will it do the car any damage?

No, it won't do damage.

Just that beyond a certain dosage, you won't actually gain anymore extra RON, that's all. So it'd just be wasted, IYSWIM.

Glad to know the Total stuff is pretty good quality. There's a fair old cluster of Total stations in my neck of the woods, but I've always been a bit hesitant to use them til now.

Just been plotting my course from Le mans to the most local shell station for the return leg, there are a few shell garages in France just not many. Thanks to the Iphone I should be able to find them.

will just add my observations.
I spend alot of time in the UK, Germany Belguim and France driving a right hand drive big power subaru maped on UK V power and also in a left hand drive BMW diesel.

My take on it is the Shell fuel grade at shell stations in these countries is in order of quality is
1. Germany - 100 ron v power
2. UK
3. Then France and Belgium

Due to the potential issue of fuel surge.... saxo boy style. For me 1/4 tank = empty.
I have a bottle with a pre messured mark on it that adds the right amount of NF to 3/4 of a tank at each fill up get the octane rating up by just under two points.
( with out measuring it again I cant for the life of me remember how much I put in - if anyone wants to know exactly how much NF to put into a 3/4 I can measure it again. I did the maths but have fogotton getting senile)

also on Simtek my second map pulls the ignition and is more suitable for 95ron/lower grade fuel. If cruising off boost in France with some of their lower grade frog muck in I flick the switch.

Cheers
Steve

Dosage to gain 2 RON is 0.333 (1/3rd) of a bottle of NF to 50 litres of unleaded...

* So if a JDM 50 litre tank car, you'd need 0.25 of a bottle for 3/4 of a tank (37.5L).

* If a 60L tank UK car, then you'd need 0.4 of a bottle of NF for a full tank. Or 0.3 of a bottle for 3/4 of a tank (45L).

(I can't remember the ml of a bottle of NF RF, hence me quoting "0.x" instead of actual ml. But just multiply the ml of the whole bottle by the above factors to get the respective dosages in ml.)
