Get straight on to the old bill mate, makes sense to get it reported and if it goes wrong you have followed the due process.

Insurance and police.....and if they ask why you never reported it sooner, say you child was in the car so wanted to make sure everyone was ok first.

Then you all goto your DR and complain of neck pain...do the bitch for whip lash too....fukc her now!!!

I think most insurers allow you 48 hours to report it. Have a look at your policy there might be an email address you can use, if anything it will give a time and date that you tried to inform them. If they are closed for instance.

Mantas.... let your insurers know. No need to inform the police as you've done what is legally required at the roadside.

If the details she's given you are pony then the insurers will chase up the registered keeper of that vehicle and investigate the driver.

I'd also try and remember everything about the incident and write it down..... description of vehicle, driver.... time of day, location.... traffic, weather and light conditions.....etc. That 'statement' can then be used as evidence if required later.

Your insurer will get the process moving and should advise you of your legal rights.... They can also get the car repaired while the insurers are still arguing over who's to blame (although you should have no issues there).

Get on the phone mate.

The notification condition isn't normally that specific - you could report a motor claima couple of weeks down the line successfully, often longer depending on insurer.

Really?

Whenever I've read my policy documents they've always tended to state that all accidents and incidents regardless of blame, or stature have to be reported within a certain time?

Mantaz- sorry to hear you've had this bad luck. It's always a cr4ppy situation to be in, even without the doubts you have on the validity of their insurance. Hope you get it all sorted soon mate, good luck with it all.

P.S Glad the little one is okay-could've been a lot worse.

Yup. In fact there is caselaw which says that even where an insurer's notification condition is not met the insurer must show that their position (ie ability to investigate) the claim has in some way been prejudiced before rejecting a claim on the basis of late notification. Wordings tend to either say you must notify "immediately" (but see above), "as soon as reasonably practicable" or they set a period as you say, such as 14 days.

Having said all that, my advice would be to read your policy and meet the condition. I would never delay notifying a claim myself (I'm an insurance advisor btw).

The way your light has popped out suggests its not just a bootlid that has sustained damage, looks like the chassis part the bootlid meets when it closes has lost some shape, not writing it off etc, just dont think it will be a bootlid to repair fully

good luck bud

The rear bumper support bar is bolted (by three hefty bolts per side) to the chassis. If it's been twatted hard enough it's a far bit of structural work.

I don't wish to be a doom monger, but your quote is going to come as a shock to you. If that hasn't bent the rear of the chassis in some way I will be amazed.

Sorry, but I really think you should get on to your insurers. You will regret not doing so if you are not careful.

+1

See my thread in NSR. Had a foriegn guy hit me and the Mrs in my runaround. Obviously getting an ambulance there ASAP as she's 37 weeks was the priority but I had plenty of pics taken and the powleece came too.

I covered my **** and did it the right way - I suggest you bite the bullet and do that too!! We're not talking about a bumper scuff here for gods sake and I would have taken any child of mine to hospital for a thorough check up too

Hopefully your insurers won't see this thread, put 2+2 together and call you asking why you haven't told them

This is what i got 2day

... fokin mad people.... I know a bit about cars and how much real things cost in a real world...but this is horrendous.

I went to my m8 and agreed he would sort me out for for much less than that 1.4k i think is aquite fair quote comparing to this one ??? So i got in touch with a her husband and he seems to be a nice guy , But. We still havent agreed , ive sent him the pics by my will , so what hes saying now is he getting a quote done somewhere else and will come ack to me tommorow morning. I doubt he will get smtn better that that , but i'll give him a chance.Even . I dont want to make a profit of it, i'm a fair person and believe what comes around goes around. If he will tell me tommorow that someone will sort my car out cheaper it will be interesting to see what will they do, parts , etc., as theres few bits to change... Its the last chance for him thought, otherweis i'm contacting the insurance tommorow.

I must be foking mad with my honesty , aye

TBH mate at £40 that's only 20 hours labour, and I'd be surprised if it is that cheap

cant see why you dont or havnt been in touch with YOUR insurance company by now. Your child is traveling in this car again sometime in the future, so dont go down the route of getting him to get the work done, get it sorted out properly mate, think of your kids.
Dont wish to sound harsh , but it sounds like you havent got insurance yourself , because with my kids in this car it would be getting done right away and done PROPERLY.
Boll**cks to what you said before about not wainting to cause her any more trouble, just think of your kids mate and nothing else

as others have said i cant believe you haven't got in touch with your insurance company already, the fact they want to pay you cash is a sure sign that have something to hide, after all its not a door mirror we are talking about here is it? for them to find at least 1.4k your mate quoted would be push i would imagine let alone the cash for the official quote you had, i would without doubt get onto the insurance asap before it comes and bites you on the ****, also the quote is about right when i had there same damage (needed exhaust not boot lid) the quote was within a couple of hundred pound of the one above.
