Look up North Korea, Burma and Zimbabwe. While you're at it, google Tiananmen Square '89. Benevolent?

But what about now, in the 21st century?

We are talking about the alternatives today not last century. Would China being the world's number 1 economoy and super power really be that bad? What about India? Less likely I know, but certainly on their way to being a top economy.

It would be worse I believe. China has a dismal record on human rights and is not a democracy.

Commonwealth games?

Three gorges dam, 1.3 million forced to move. thousands who refused were beaten along with their families, and thousands whe moved found themselves homeless due to the resettlement fund having $40 million dissapear into thin air.

I for one welcome our chinese overlords

What is the point of your post? I did express a feeling of hope in that comment that I made, not a positive statement of fact. The subject under discussion was actually China of course, not the other countries you mentioned. I certainly did not quote them as an example anyway.

I am well aware of the Chinese record on human rights of course, but we were talking about their abilities with regard to the world economy and what path their commercialism might take.

Try another scrape of the barrel!

Nostradamus FTW!

To be honest, my RE teacher in school told me a LOOONG time ago that the world was probably going to be ruled by the Chinese.

They're client states of China, Les. Zimbabwe, North Korea and Burma were cited as possible targets for coalition regime change by f1_fan and other pro-Saddam and anti-American posters, apparently oblivious to the fact they're enslaved to China. I'm just surprised at your "hope" for "benevolence"; it seems so naive, which is unlike you. Apologies for any confusion.

everyone seem so concern about China's booming economy situation, surely if there's a gained, it must had a lost, the best way to predict the future is to look back the history, and I think the future is bright.

I deal with Chinese employees daily - they were extremely pushy until I "managed" their expectations.

"Account Suspend" is a good option to have once in a while.

Cheeky fvcks are complaining that data isn't refreshed till 3 / 4 pm their time

I would always prefer to think the best of people until they prove by their actions that my trust was misplaced. I don't accept that is necessarily an example of naivety.

Morning Paul, morning all.

Agreed, it might be an anachronistic outlook but as the saying goes 'fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me'.

Yeah but there is more political mileage in railing against 'the West'.
