So very true.

Working in the customer service business, I can honestly say (out of those I encounter) that the majority of people are severely lacking in that department.

As for the topic, the glove thing seems a little strange, but appears to be some sort of personal request. Much the same as the food. Perhaps she is a fussy eater and there was nothing else there she liked...if she works there all of the time I wonder what she normally does for food, or do they normally serve egg/mayo and had just run out?

Actually, I remember a conference where ethnic people were sitting quietly at the time of the conclusive feedback summary, hardly making any complaints about any type of food or inconvenience etc. But the white, British comperer woman was shouting on top her voice to the mic, saying "...and, we want kosher next time! It was missing, and we are not happy about it! Are we? " She was acting like some diversity champion, enticing Jews and other attendees to get wound up about the lack of it at conference dinner, and scream with her. No one from the audience joined her at all with her screaming. Haha, What a stupid bint!

At my place (a comprehensive school) there is a shortage of toilets. Despite this, a toilet on our floor has been decommissioned and turned into a "prayer space" for a teacher whom I've never met. I don't know what his religion is, I'm not au fait enough with "diversity" to tell at a glance what his race is but it appears to be broadly Indian subcontinent. Why is it that the needs of one person, praying to some ****** that probably doesn't exist, means that hundreds of pupils in the school find it more difficult to fulfil a basic human need, to the point where they have to use the staff toilet which they are barred from?

Unreasonable religious requirements make my FECKING. BLOOD. BOIL.

The thing is, after all the fuss of changing the gloves I'd have said to her:
"of all the processes it has taken to produce the bread, prepared eggs, mayonaise etc, don't you want to know if clean gloves were used there too? Because I can't guarantee that!"

Imagine the pause and deep thought of her then!

Seriously !!!!
They could have put up a shed in one of the school fields. He/She would not have been remotely bothered, as long as they could do what they feel they need to , to satisfy their belief.
This Country or it's pathetic pc suckers need to get a grip on reality.
Religious people can be assisted in their cause without any disruption to those who chose not to believe, without all this stupid bending over backwards attitude by the powers that be.

There's an even more shocking possibility that noone seems to have considered yet, which is that the woman could actually see there was no egg mayo filling left, and deliberately asked for it to make a nuisance of herself

Maybe the educational authority or council has some policy of having 'prayer' rooms?

Still the religion in question preaches modesty but taking over a whole room for one person is hardly showing modesty!

Doesn't one just need a mat to pray?

Only if one is a Muslim and this thread made no mention of which religion this person using this prayer room belonged to which says more about the way you think than anything else!!!!

Yeah but isn't it comforting to know that this person is having to use a converted bog where school kids have played pissing games all over the floor

We have a medical room in our building where the religeous people go and pray. Not sure what would happen if there was a medical emergency while someone was in there praying though.

The glove thing no longer comes as a surprise to me, as I was in subway one time and when I asked for the hot veggie thing the guy ASKED if I wanted him to change his gloves.

I was so impressed with his consideration (me being a veggie and all) that I wrote a letter of thanks and got some vouchers back

I'm still not sure where the multi-culturalism came in to the original story though.

Clearly if any asian looking person does something annnoying it must be due to religion and they have to be typicial of every Indian, Pakistani Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan in the universe. This woman was clearly a muslim fundamenalist and a supporter of terrorism and if she don't like our sandwich ques she should **** off back to where she came from and have egg mayonaise in the Pakistan capital Mumbai.

We've done quite well to get this far in before you decide to turn it into another poster v poster personal slugfest, nice restraint, for a while ...

My original post explains my considered assumption that the glove request came on religious grounds.

Grow up. I observed and commented on politeness, somewhat unreasonable demands with callous disregard of the inconvinience of others and questioned opinion. Nowhere did I mention nationality or any particular religion. Your comments seem seem to display a degree of paranoia when considered in that context, no?

OMFG, have Pakistan invaded India...Do India know???

TBH the glove request even on cultural/religious grounds seems fair. What is not fair is this the lack of consideration shown by this selfish woman by holding up a lot of other people!

I pray every time I head for the *hitters at work...

This week I was politely informed that there would be no ham for sandwiches...

My joke about running out of halal ham was well received.

NDL - I find your response to my comment interesting as it highlights how biased our thoughts can be (general statement)

When, in your original post, you said she asked for the gloves to be changed, my immediate thought was that it was based on vegetarian grounds.

I honestly would not have considered religious or ethnic (beyond societal pressures on vegetarianism) reasons until later.

I'm also finding it of equal interest how people are focussing on one particular religion when another, such as Buddhism (first precept) or Hinduism could also account for her actions.
