I've been looking at these recently... don't know why but I'm being drawn towards them to replace the Pork.

Not special enough as a weekender though?

Both of them are lackluster bavarian rep mobiles for the lesser endowed middle age man!

Touche matteeboy!

Well i'm well endowed and in my mid twenties so not applicable to this GTR owner

RS5 is really disappointing though, it had the capacity on paper to be such a better motor than what it is.....

Th RS5 is typical of my concerns with the heavy engined Quattros, and suffers the very same problems encountered with classic shape Imprezas which have the same drivetrain layout issues but combined with a inadequate suspension design. Despite the Audi's superb front suspension layout, it still struggles to give good turn-in when pressing on. The TG video of it being pushed round the track demonstrates this quite clearly.

Its not all to do with the power split or AWD, its just there is too much weight ahead of the front axle, which combined with the huge gyroscopic forces of the engine's rotating parts, which in turn prevents it turning in as crisp as it should.

Whereas cars like the BMW have the engine pushed much much further back in the engine bay (its almost mid engined...the engine oil sump is in the same place as the gearbox sump on an Audi RS5/4/etc - thats almost 2ft! ), So these forces are more balanced out between both axles. Combine this better balance with the superb e39 based front suspension (which traces it roots back to the E28, yes the e92 is basically uses old 5-series suspension - thats a good thing as the e46's suspesnion was poor), resulting in much crisper turn-in by default.

All BMW need to do now is bring out their Xi drivetrain and apply it to the M-cars as an optional extra, then it'd be able to perform in the wet almost as good as it does in the dry.

Since there is some ***** waving going on here, I'd just like to say that I have a hawkeye that would show both the BMW and the RS5 a clean pair of heels.....and I have a 10 inch *****, and my dad could beat up your dad..... etc....etc...

I didnt. Just lacking something and that front grill looked really out of place on a £55k car.

Don't the xi 3 series BM's have a higher ride height to accommodate the 4wd system?

They do indeed and look like they are on stilts.

You can accommodate a small family and their furniture in the wheelarch of an xi 3 series. Shout into one and the echo will continue for many years.

I think they look great especially with the new tweaked front end. The noise it makes is extraordinary, far superior to a boxer 6 IMO and with the performance pack or whatever it is called they are pretty unstoppable performance wise. Have a go, see what you think.
