I don't care how high quality the produce is, I'm not going to pay £1.80 for six sprouts in a blister pack.

OK, so how come no mention of Waitrose in this thread so far? Of all the other supermarkets on the high street I would have thought they're by far the most similar to M&S for food.

Definitely pretty popular with the older folk, from what I remember of my occasional visits there.

In my opinion, Waitrose are less "in your face" than Marks, they're rarely on the High Street. Lots of people have negative views about M&S because of their own misplaced perceptions, whereas Waitrose are usually out of sight, out of mind for the peanut gallery, and hence get mentioned less.

They are a proper highstreet supermarket providing more high quality choice than M&S albeit with less convenience if your after a latte with your pressed y-fronts

This is my point, Bob, lots of opinions on here from what are clearly isolated and atypical experiences.

Marks doesn't deserve the negativity, in my opinion. Decent British company doing a decent job of things.

Blimey Tel boy....more passion on here than on a scoobynet muslim/rascist/mortgage/religion is there a God thread

I like Marks stuff.I have to agree with the small portions thing though

Back to the OP,certainly is full of old people at lunch time when I go for my (small) pasta dish + yoghurt and granola + water...nearly a fiver for lunch! (treat rather than a normal lunchtime venue)

Saying that, all supermarkets sell ready meals with small portions, nothing new. If anyone likes reasonable portions, they need to CIY it.

Have you ever had lamb rogan Josh from Tesco? It has 2 tiny lamb dices in the most disgusting sauce! Their pilau rice is revolting as well.Their readymade shepherd's pie looks like cat food topped up with a layer of mashed patatoes! Ready meals are not great in any supermarket. But if one is on one's own, one may as well buy microwavable meals for one etc.

Yeah they're not brilliant. I do buy a couple each time we go shopping, usually the chicken & basel pasta or tikka masala for work. Beats sarnies when you want something warm for your dinner. Some of us don't work in clean office blocks

I do, you see!

I also work from home, which is even more cushy. Even then, I buy them Tesco meals when everybody in my house is away, and when I can't be @rsed cooking for my "one and only" self. Every time I so regret buying them poor rogan joshes that I think I should have gone to McDonalds.

I believe you, Chip. I don't think you will feel any hunger type of sensation until that Dreams bed matter is resolved, anyway.

Ok, back to M&S.

M&S got some shoe-and-ankle shaped glass bottles from China in bulk, about 6-7 years ago. M&S filled them with something very sugary and red alcoholic stuff, and flogged them for £15 a pair. I have 2 of those empty bottles at home. They now have some feathers stuck inside them, and they sit on the window ledge. I think they look amazing.

Quite like this one:

I would have said unnecessarily ill mannered.

You wont have the choice about getting old, unless you top yourself.

Yeah, the last time I tried a M&S meal I thought it was a feckin cuppa soup!

Tel has some growing to do, Chip, until he 'gets' man sized portions.
