I drove an ST2 ages ago. I didn't really like the diving position - felt like an MPV. The cloth seats didn't really feel that supportive. Dash was also very cheap looking. It was quite quick but at the time I had a Type RA and it couldn't match the scoob for performance.

keep away owned one and came back

had orange one someone bumped the bumper and near impossible to get exact match .

gears are clunky ,plus dual mass flywheel

liners are known to crack over 300bhp on earlier models.

heavy on fuel.

sound dreadful when the abs kick in on snow ice(bit like a bag of spanners in the bell housing)

oil filter pain in the **** to get to ,plus they take 7-8 litres on oil change

seats are fantastic and very comfy tho lol.

Don't they pitch the driving position too high though?

Thats what worries me about the RS. Now matter how good the handling and engine how does it feel sitting in it. Is it that different to an ST. Different seats but what about the rest of the inside?

The ST's position wasn't good. Perhaps you get used to it

You do get used to the driving position though for a while you wish you were lower.

Most comfiest seats of any car I've ever owned though - I had the ST3 with the leather.

Great car - loved mine, beast with a chip - 270bhp!

Ah SJ I remember a few of your threads & posts when I was contemplating CTR vs ST2 a couple of years ago. Ive no complaints about going for the CTR other than the aforementioned traction issues which are probably a lot less in the last CTRs with the added LSD.

What you driving now SJ?

Absolutely - very different cars. The ST with 270bhp didn't really suffer traction issues (though torque is limited in 1st and I think 2nd too which really helps - can't remember if the chips overrided that completely or just lessened the amount of torque limited). Handled well and really flew - and yes it torque steered a little, but nothing like people go on about!!!

I replaced Focus with cheap motoring for a year - a Leon Cupra (2001) which was chipped, naturally, lol! That had around 205-210bhp and was very pokey indeed, surprised many, but lacked the outright pace of the ST. Also doesn't handle anywhere near as well, though I added a rear ARB, front upper and lower strut brace and this really made an impressive difference, but still behind the ST.

Changed completely now and mile munching in a 2006 330d Coupe!

a couple of my friends have ST's, two standard and one with the Mountune kit, made it a very capable car, and in gear there isnt a lot between his and my 350bhp 2005 sti, (mines a bit quicker), hes done a couple of track days in it and it goes very very well, i would have one!

it seems to be about the same as the scooby on fuel (awful) so bear that in mind if it matters to you!

That's my take. Too narrow, too high.
