I cant believe I have only just come across this thread.
As some of you know I chopped in my WRX for an ST. I have the Dec 2008 model so is the facelift. I couldn't be more happier with it. I wasn't really looking for a new car when I went out to drive one, just having some fun on a boring Sunday afternoon. I could't believe the difference in how nice it was to drive. It had instant power with unbelievable torque. It made my Impreza feel so laggy and dated on the drive home. From then I knew I wanted the change.
As for those criticising the interior you obviously haven't sat in a facelift ST. It made a 2004 Impreza look prehistoric. A huge step up from any impreza I've ever been in with everything that should come in a modern car. Push button engine start, dash mounted gauges, heated windscreen, global closing windows, puddle lighting, Auto dimming rear view mirror, USB for iPod, climate control. The list goes on. Christ even the Hawkeye's come with a tape player!!
Mine now has a Dreamscience remap, Mongoose CAT back, K&N filter. At present its just been rollered at Prosport as running 260bhp/398lb torque. No slouch.
Next up I plan on an Sport CAT, turbo downpipe, Dreamscience CAIS, ECU spacer and a new intercooler. Hopefully getting to the 300bhp mark. I think that'll be my limit or I'll have to fit an RS clutch!
I'm really chuffed you picked one up Neil. Hopefully at some point we'll catch up and compare notes!
P.S I just remembered it was you that was taking the **** on a tunnel run when I said I was buying an ST. Oh how things change!!

I used to have an ST before the RB320 and loved every minute of it. I had the Mountune kit on it and a Piper turbo back exhaust along with quite a few other bits and pieces it made at 282bhp and 361 ft/lbs on the rolling road lottery. It obviously isn’t as quick as the RB off the mark or round the bends but once rolling in 3 rd gear there wouldn’t be much in it. Really comfy seats and would be a great daily drive if it was a bit better on juice. A real pleasure to drive and I had no running issues when I had mine. The 5 pot sounds really good to. There are a couple of decent clubs too www.fordrst.co.uk and www.focusstoc.com

I don't blame you for selling up for an RB though!

I was reading an old Evo review that pitted an ST with Mountune Upgrade (circa 256bhp claimed but seems many are higher) against the RS mk2 and the ST outpaced it all the way up to 140mph. Admittedly just in a straight line and Id rather still have an RS to be honest. But awesome performance boost at £1096 + 1hr labour keeping your warranty!
