I think so, that or looking down at my gears.

I'm not used to riding in busy areas so didn't expect the car to stop. Totally my fault I have to admit.

Not actually patched a leak for about 16 years and the unbranded/unexplained repair kit i now have is not the same (where is the glue, chalk, sandpaper, yellow crayon?)
Spare tube always - but have some self sticking patches as well... just in case

I was wanting to try a 10 miler ride to see how my hoop would handle it.

Been out today and rode to the nearest lighthouse down the coast

Pulled the phone out of my pocket to see how far i had gone only to see a message on screen saying "touch to unpause" so i unpaused it and it still thought i was bloody home

Anyway the route back was approx 6.5 miles so i figure the slightly different journey towards was around 5, hoop is now fine, adjusted the saddle a few more times and its helped loads.

The route home was apparently worth 495 calories, so todays effort was probably around 900 ish?, decent for a noob in the first week of riding.

Also popped into a local bike shop to have a look at getting one for the missus, she is a bit jealous that i have been out and about exploring and wants to come along (i swear she will not stop until she has invaded all possible "me time" avenues)

Anyway, we ordered some cheap own brand hybrid bike (about £250) for her so she can come along, it looked a bit crap as you would expect.

4.3 mile on the first night on may 18th = 28 mins and it destroyed me.

4.7 mile tonight = 22 mins

improvement

I had to stop though as i had a creak every time i pedaled, so i cut the journey short (not even that tired tbh) to check the bike over, i have done around 35 miles on it now.

Bottom bracket needed a tighten, i rechecked the pedals and they were nipped up a little, the front chain rings were a little slack, so i sorted them, but i have not been back out on the bike yet to test it (will do tomorrow)

The plan is to stay off the bike Tommie night (apart from a quick creak check) and go out for a decent longish ride on sat morning with two other mates (i think it might be 15miles plus)

I also randomly lost 10 psi from both wheels for some reason...

Well done Micky, just keep going, it soon comes, I am doing a fair distance every day now and it just feels normal, easy, am seeking out hills, running out of decent roads free of arseholes.

I know what you mean about hills. I used to hate them, now I enjoy them if thats the right word.

I'm seriously envious of my mates trip to the Alps this summer to do some classic tour climbs. Longest hill I've done so far is over Snowdonia.

Are you talking the Llanberis PATH or pass?

It is strange, I don't do massive ones at the moment as there arent many it being Cheshire but I kind of relish them and dont end up a gibbering wreck, I think the fitter you get, the lighter you get the more you have in reserve, I am no athlete but I can lug my fat **** up some fair old hills. I think people assume its easy from a 280 bhp diesel off roader, but most people when they try it realise what effort is required even when you are pretty much average weight.

It is a strange feeling, actually enjoying a hill, realising it isn't to be feared and to just spin your way up slowly.

*not been to the alps though, hardcore !

Pass. Not sure what the total accent in metres that is. I did from the Llanberis direction.

More than Northamptonshire I think. Highest point of county is only 200 metres. So typically a 70-100 meter climb is the most you can expect, although most of the routes I've done are rarely flat.

Been out again today, did 19 miles and i was probably the fittest cyclist from the group, lmfao, after 4 miles the 2 girls gave up and bought fooking sausage and chips from a street van then went home, so us 3 lads cracked on and did the rest of the ride ourselves.

I could have done more miles but my mate was completely paggered so we came back, feeling sore now though, aches all over including my neck, but i felt a lot better about it all when i saw that i was doing pretty good, considering i am the heaviest ****** out of the lot of them, to be honest i thought the rest of them were a bit crap

We were going at a pretty slow pace so the miles were easy to munch up (all i have been doing since i got the bike is going flatout as much as i can)

I had to keep stopping and slowing down

Cardio app reckons i have burnt the best part of 1500 calories today, so i best get some beer down my neck
