Why buy an Impreza, if you are never going to open it up once in a while? Doesnt make sense to me.

Had my WRX weighed on a weighbridge recently and it came in at 1360kg with just over 1/4 tank of fuel, spare, toolkit, k sports, and full interior, in fact I also had some tools in the boot.

racing can be fun to the extent that there will ALWAYS be a faster car than yours somewhere…and when it passes you, it just makes you want to empty your bank account on tuning.!!!!

hell,an astra VXR done me the other week. (sti v8 331bhp/320lbs)

Yeah, very under rated cars, and big power can be easily had.

And awful torque steer. Bone dry, straight I would assume they are good fun. Wet and in corners I'd hazard the driver would have a steady supply of "grown-up" nappies from the local fetish club

Not really too dissimilar from a UK WRX in terms of the potential of the bottom end. Well, not if this quote from Thorney Motorsport is anything to go by:

"However, with the LEH bottom end (pistons, rods) really being unable to cope long term with more than 340bhp we limit the power from the stage 4 to under this level, but it does mean if you replace the bottom end (stage 5) then 380bhp is yours for the taking. In other words this is a stage 5 conversion but power limited to 345bhp to protect the standard bottom end."

Stage 4 comprises

Garrett GT28 Turbo
Specified solely for our Stage 4 Conversion, it features Roller Bearings, Uprated Seals and Shafts.
TMS Equal Length Manifold
TMS Large Bore Downpipe (Fits to TMS Exhaust by Milltek)
TMS Oil Feed & Breather Pipes
TMS Stage 4 Remap (Available via. TMS Bluefin Device)
(FOC Upgrade to existing TMS customers.)
TMS Front Mount Intercooler
TMS Race Exhaust System by Milltek Sport
1.9 CDTi Astra H Airbox Conversion
Uprated Manifold Studs
Extra Heat Shielding
All New Silicon Hosing
New Boost Sensor
All New Gaskets

345BHP & 380Ft/lbs

Cost

Std. Car -> Stage 4 - £8,995

A PPP hawkeye Sti will do those figures for a £600 ecutek remap. The bigger issue is that A FWD car will not put it's power down in the lower gears at those levels. It'd have to have the boost regined in the first couple of gears. Not much point in having power if you can't use it!

Would be a giggle I'm sure though!

it wasn't for catching me from the off but it passed me with ease when i hit top end. It was definitely not standard.

Stage 3- stage 4 whatever. Couldn't live with a well speced/setup impreza any day of the week. And from reading the above post (stage 4 =345 bhp) a stage 4 tuned Astra VXR isn't even in the same league buddy.

Also, for a car to pull away decisively from another, we're not talking just talking a difference in transmission losses here! Nor are we talking about 10, 20, 30, 40 bhp difference, more like 100bhp

I was concentrating on getting my launch right. At the time I had LC wired up to the handbrake so on the line I had to remember to pull my handbrake up, plant my right foot, wait for the light then disengage the clutch and take the handbrake off and change gear immediately after I just wanted traction not a fast reaction time It paid off though.

Let's also not forget it was my first ever go on a dry drag strip. The first ever go on a drag strip at all was the week before in the rain and resulted in me winning scoobyshoot out modified 1/4 mile class.

Not bad for a beginner

I'm under no illusion I'll get my **** kicked this year if I manage to get the car ready.

The FWD cars didn't do that well at Marham a few weeks ago ... Scoobs & Datsuns seemed to rule the roost.
