The problem is that the GTR cannot fit passengers especially kids in child seats in the rear. The way the rear seat is configured/shaped means even small kids have zero leg room, I've tried.
So if you need the rear seats the M3 makes sense and the GTR is useless, if you don't need the rear seats then yes GTR everytime

I'd have to disagree Deep. Andy (Alloy) took me and my mate out when we met up recently at the Ace Cafe in London. I'm 5'6 and my mate is a gangly 6 footer. He was pretty comfy behind me without the seat being waaay forwards, especially considering the near 600bhp which threw us around

That was more to do with the enthusiastic driving Andy Yeah it's tight but I still think you can get average sized guys in there (say 5'8-5'10). Obviously you being quite tall and stocky buggers that plan but I thought behind me wasn't too bad.

I took my small son and his child seat with me when I test drove the GTR and it just doesn't work. Could I shoe horn him in? Yes. Would he be even remotely comfortable, no way.
I tried the same thing with a 997 and M3 and in terms of comfortable useable rear space for kids it was
M3> 997 > GTR
And strangely enough the 997 was quite a bit better than the GTR.
Don't get me wrong, it's a stonking car but just happens to have useless back seats unless the two people up front are midgets

COB, I know this may sound strange but in some ways the rear seats are actually worse for child seats. The way they are shaped means that though your bum/legs will in some way sink into them the solid kids seat won't and that leaves no leg room.

So 4 dwarfs in a GTR is fine but 2 parents and a Childs seat is a no no

Agreed the performance is phenomenal! I also agree about the child seat thing. When we (mrs and I) were bringing our little un back from hospital for the first time I was so thankful not to have my little Peugeot and that big old school Merc. Still then as it's a rear facing one on the back seat, we still had to move her seat forwards a little.

Wait until you have another!
My 5 series is quite big, its the same size as a 7 series from a few years back. My kids are 3 and 4 and I'm 6ft and my wife is 5ft6. When we are all in the car with us two having our seats back in a comfortable position there is just enough room.
The kids feet are still touching the back of our seats.

I had this problem when my daughter was around that age Ding. My daughter is 10 now and needs less leg room as her legs touch the floor and don't stick into the back of the front seats.

Jim, yes its the child seats that make leg room difficult.
COB, don't believe a word of it mate. The girls always say that straight after the baby and then within 6 months they get all broody! You'll have another one soon, I bet you.
As for the BM, it's ok. It's about the biggest car I've ever owned and takes a little getting used to in terms of its size and weight. It's also the slowest car I've owned for ages and thats taking a little getting used to. The upside is I'm getting 30mpg compared to 13mpg. The question is how long will this convince me its the right thing to do.
I thought I had grown out of the fast car thing, but now I'm not so sure. I could see myself getting tempted by something with an AMG or M Power badge in the next year or so. Maybe one day I'll finally grow up.....................

No not yet mate. The last time I checked there still no remap via the OBD type solutions. It required a bench reflash, ie actually taking the ECU out. Not sure if I'm so keen on that.
The engine also only has 600 miles on it so far, I'll wait until it gets to 1000 miles and then investigate again
