Hmm in essence maybe yes, the state is giving tax-payers money to the benefit of private investors, but in practice the banks were a going concern which arguable the whole economy depended upon, otoh buying a house is just a private invester buying an asset from another private investor.

If the gov was serious about helping first time buyers they should try and influence the fundamentals such as opening up more land to build upon or scrapping the tax subsides that BTL landlords get.

Besides why is it house ownership a matter of gov policy? People can rent FFS!

If the gov stayed out of trying to do this and that, then maybe they would not have to spend half the time spending time and money fixing their past mistakes. The housing market is a case in point. Seriously the gov spends half its time and money fixing past policy errors. It's a whole self-perpetuating joke, and the America FF's had the right idea; private citizens should just be allowed to get on with their lives without too much government meddling. Gov is the most inefficient organisation we have created and ****s up half the time.

^^^ Trouble is we live in a collective society where the policy is basically formed solely on people's desires. Hence the deconstruction in America of what you mention there; the liberal pussies have crept in and caused a disaster there. It's a shame... America was a one off.

Yes certainly we believe (quite foolishly) that the political class is able deliver our hopes and aspirations....and all we have to do is vote.

Thanks labour....for the ABSOLUTLEY IMMENSE deficit you left us with so you could get into power for another 4 years, by delivering a "people's budget"....left it and left it until now, when its broken, and we are all getting buggered for your utterly huge shortfalls.

Anyhoot that said did you all catch the part where he said fuel would be CHEAPER in april 2012 than it is now!>?

p.s.
Did you know....the UK pays £48 million A DAY...to be in the crapping EU, and throw handouts to **** house economical countries like GERMANY, who are more broke than we are....

It could have been a hell of a lot worse. It's not going to make a vast amount of difference to me. I was hoping for more than 1p off the fuel and was disappointed nothing was metioned about heating oil
I feel sorry for those who fancy a pint and a smoke to drown their sorrows, that's gone up steep. It's a good job they haven't found a way to tax sex
