Every single person who smokes suffers genetic damage to their lungs with every cigarette (not to mention mouth, throat, etc) that will eventually turn into disease.
A very small per cent have the ability to repair that genetic damage and these are the people trotted out by ardent smokers as " X smoked 100 capstan a day all their life and they're still hale and hearty, etc".
This willfully ignores the vast majority who will die young and in agony either from cancer, heart disease, strokes, or COPD.
My eldest brother is a heart and lung specialist, and sees this denial day in/ day out whilst treating diseases entirely caused by a foolish social habit and giving bad news to selfish people and (unfortunately) their families.
People at parties who walk up to him while they are smoking and ask him what he does usually go " bet you're going to tell me to stop smoking then aren't you"? To which his standard reply (as they are too fekking stupid to listen to the truth) is" Not at all. Keep on smoking - I've got three kids to put through college...".
His job is sadly more than safe as long as there are weak fools out there who believe that "smoking is cool", or that they "just can't give up - I've tried", or that the advertising industry hasn't sold you a pup. Man up.
It doesn't make you look cool or hard, it just makes you smell bad, look old before your years, and virtually certain to die a horrible death.
To the OP - as a smoker you're very wise to be concerned where your money might go if you die early as you probably will.
